Anyone wanting to get into Japanese literature needs to read Mishima, Kawabata, Murasaki, Abe, Ōe, Tanizaki and Sōseki, but if you're looking for something more contemporary, I recommend these three brilliant novels without hesitation. They're wonderful, haunting works.

Kate has written this about being trolled by scum for daring to ask reasonable questions of a tyrannical Iranian regime. The comments beneath it are heartening and true: Kate is a magnificent journalist whom Times Radio is very lucky to have. thetimes.com/article/baecac…

Here’s the sad truth. British food was ranked one of the great world cuisines in the 1800s. Actual snooty French chefs said British food was the best. It was destroyed by WW1, when it was made patriotic to eat crappy. Between the wars it really didn’t recover much, but then the rationing & privations of WW2 pretty much did it in. It has slowly improved since the 60s but it still has a long way to go. They went from Beef Wellington to mushy peas. I’ve spent plenty of time in Britain and yeah you can find some decent food, but it’s no wonder they’re hooked on Indo-Pak cuisine.

"British food bad" is just the biggest anti-White psyop ever, people have no idea what "British food" even is because its been adopted by so much of the world that people don't even recognize it as British in origin. Americans in particular are especially clueless about this

@measure_plan That’s really fun, and congrats! Caught my eye: and explains the other subtweet with a piano roll editor. I’m trying to think how this works now. Intrigued!

@Roger_Moorhouse @Madz_Grant Overwhelmingly sad and stupid. Had me going all Roger Scruton this morning. Mind you these days lots of things do that...

And if you’re thinking why Tesla - think Boscovich! Our geometers seek to rectify the parabola, why not Parabolify the Straight Line! Why not, indeed…

Going back into the weekend with my Anglican choral project. Might it be finished in time for Sunday evensong? It might, it might…. It’s big, beautiful, and does things you don’t expect. It’s Ben’s Benevolent Box of SATB Bonanzas. Stay tuned, it’ll be worth it…

Les "livres tunnel" du XIXe siècle sont de véritables prouesses d'ingénierie du papier. Ils utilisent des soufflets latéraux pour étirer des scènes qui se chevauchent et créer une véritable profondeur tridimensionnelle.

I can defintely see the enjoyment and value of that too. Perhaps what I mean more precisely is that on very rare occasions I have felt as if I've been taken through a life without ever having noticed the intrusion of the biographer, and that as a reader I have been left unmanipulted, which is - of course - an absurd and very artful manipulation in itself!

@intelhistory That’s very interesting. It’s not quite the same for me. Eg I loved Castor’s Bolingbroke because he was Castor’s. Her version adds itself to mine / my conception of history’s, while, because, being, definitely hers. Rather as the recent Green Knight film for me added to the poem
