It has taken Labor 3 days to accept the Liberal/National Coalition's call to halve the fuel excise and the heavy vehicle road user charge. In that time, the Government has collected an extra $50 Million in fuel tax revenue.

Labor, the Coalition and One Nation all just voted against an amendment I put up to call on the Government to get a fair deal on the sale and export of Australian gas by instituting a 25 per cent tax on LNG export revenue, which is estimated to generate $17 billion a year.
They're running a protection racket for the gas industry rather than standing up for Aussies.
*Senators Lambie, Payman and Thorpe were unable to attend the vote for personal reasons.

English

@DavidPocock that is disgusting
even Ed Husic huh, just goes to show
don't listen to what they say. watch the way they vote

@beggywilliamz Oh, come on now, it was his big moment from hiding in the toilet from the girls to overacting, I don't think it will do his business much good

Bridgie, darl… hate to break it to you, but this ain’t some “flash of genius” cooked up by the now basically fossilised Bridget McKenzie fan club.
Cutting the fuel excise?
Not new. Not yours. Not revolutionary.
It’s a standard policy lever, sitting there on the shelf, waiting for the right moment to be pulled. Always has been.
Now pet, grab a pen. This bit matters.
Anthony Albanese didn’t just stumble into this. Labor didn’t “take three days to catch up to you.” They took the time to actually do something your mob treats like a foreign language, due diligence.
You know…
→Checking the global situation.
→Watching the fallout from the war-driven oil shocks.
→Assessing the economic impact before pulling a multi-billion-dollar revenue lever.
That thing adults in government tend to do.
Also, and this might sting, Labor didn’t win one election. They won two. Comfortably. There’s a reason for that.
Albo doesn’t need a tap on the shoulder from you to govern. He’s not running a group assignment where the LNP finally shows up three days late yelling “we helped!”
You’re more than welcome to keep telling yourself this was your big influence moment. Wrap yourself in it. Add it to the frequent flyer points scoreboard.
But here’s the part you really need to write down, maybe lipstick on the mirror, big letters:
⛐ Cutting the fuel excise punches a hole in the budget.⛐
So if, in your own little cinematic universe, this was your call…
Then congratulations.
You now own that hole.
Which means → and pay attention → we will not be entertaining a single squeak, whine, or full-blown wankfest from you or your mates about “budget repair” down the track.
You don’t get to light the fire and then scream about the smoke.
Thank you for attending.
Now off you go. Hairdo.
DISMISSED. 𓃰

@AaronDodd Good post, liberals are such incredible hypocrites
English

I'd like to remind #auspol of this. Murdoch's James Campbell acknowledged then OL Shorten's promise if elected, then proceeded to tear him down (along with many of his colleagues). So I ask you, who should really be blamed for our low fuel reserves?

@NRL_Dragons Saw Mick Ennis giving instruction before the game,
who on earth could take him seriously
English

@DavidPocock the gas lobby will spend millions on trying to stop any extra tax & they have that money to spend. we have seen this before a government has even falling because they wanted to get these tax cheats to pay for our resources
English

Community pressure is working - we need to keep this up.
Labor is realising that Australians want and deserve a fair return for the sale of our gas to other countries.
This can help fund much needed cost-of-living measures.
War profits of multinational gas companies are skyrocketing - now is the time for a 25% tax on gas exports. This is urgent.
Get in touch with your MP and join the push.

The same illiterate morons who believe billionaire Trump backed by News Corp and billionaires, who believe Nigel Farage, backed by News Corp and billionaires, are the same morons who believe Pauline Hanson, backed by Gina Reinhardt, News Corp and billionaires, are fighting for them.
