@dwr Auctions attract the highest bidder, not the best guest. Restaurants that survive long-term do it on relationships, not yield management. The answer to bots isn't financializing the table, it's doubling down on the humans they already know.

Maybe this will be the impetus for restaurants to finally adopt some hybrid of early access for regulars and auction mechanics for remaining reservation inventory.

First come, first served website and app experiences are cooked. Bots have been a thing for a while, but now anyone can have an agent with computer use do it for them. Orders of magnitude increase in bots. Companies with more $$$ at stake will adapt sooner, eg tickets, but there are a bunch of services that will be worse: restaurant reservations, national park campsites, golf tee times, tennis courts, etc.
