Why I'm not a DRep anymore, by Johnny Kelly: Once I was asked to critically read and critique ~195 Proposals, Submitted Ad-Hoc, and try to make a *truly informed* Yes/No decision on whether or not they should receive funding. Even in working areas in which I have absolutely no formal experience. I Retired as a DRep. It felt like the only honest option for me. Anything else would have felt like misrepresenting my level of expertise/understanding in certain aspects of the Ecosystem (e.g. Marketing) or not being honest about how much time I'd *really* spent reading over *every* Proposal's content. I would have been fine with having a say in what the overall list of *Work Items* to be *fulfilled* were, with that fulfilment then being worked out via specialised Groups collaborating alongside any ADA Community Member who wanted to contribute their experience and understanding towards Awarding final Funding Allocations. I *wasn't* fine with having to weigh in on Full Allocation of Funding to Vendors across multiple aspects of Ecosystem Development and Support all in one go (in 12 days), without being able to have a say in the actual *Work Items* to be fulfilled in the first place (yes there was the Roadmap Vote, but it was superceded by what actually happened next). We were going to have a formalised and structured Budget to be systematically worked at one point. It got replaced with a free-for-all ad-hoc submissions process. Once that happened, I was out.

one of the pervasive lies of cardano is that it has great tech and lags because of bad marketing. in reality cardano lacks fundamental features of blockchains (and are basically impossible to properly add): 1. events are missing 2. ABIs are missing 3. data-heavy use-cases like L2s are infeasible 4. privacy / crypto-heavy use-cases are basically blocked 5. compute-heavy use-cases can't be atomic 6. state channels are missing features to really deliver 7. composition is so limited at the protocol level that most dApps live in isolation 🤭

It happened with the Leios Deliverables too. The IOG Treasury Proposal had a series of set goals to achieve and things to actually be developed in relation to Leios. Suddenly these were scrapped in favour of only developing 'Linear Leios', and no recognition was given to the fact that they'd been paid out the Treasury to deliver more than this in the details of their own Proposal. I challenged them myself on this discrepancy during a presentation they made on the pivot to Linear Leios. Nothing came of it. After that experience, I've simply given up on pushing back against actions of the FEs. They're just gonna do what they do.

No I just expect to pay for what is delivered. And right now half of what's promised has been delivered. So I can't hold my hands up and say let's keep funding these same entities on behalf of my delegates and all ada holders that experience this sell pressure. ADA has fallen from the top 10, into the top 15, then the top 20, soon to be the top 25 and yet DReps continue to spend, and sidestep relevance for broken promises. Just my opinion but I can back the above up with facts too. The alternative is to wait until we can actually afford to spend what we are spending because right now it isn't sustainable and it's extremely obvious, if things keep going the way they are, decentralization and security will not be a feature because SPO'S will be unsustainable and non block producing on Cardano.

Up until now, I’ve taken a fairly conservative stance on using the treasury for commercial initiatives. But I’m starting to think I was wrong. We can’t keep expecting @emurgo_io and @Cardano_CF to drive commercial growth on their own. If @IOGroup is willing to take on more commercial initiatives, I think we should be much more open to supporting them through governance. We need to empower IOG to move faster. I think it’s time we gave them that support. Time is running out. The market is moving incredibly fast, and Cardano is falling further behind. Realistically, @IOHK_Charles and IOG are the only ones I see who can move this ecosystem forward fast enough.

Prescribed to me today (below). Blood test came back with extremely high blood sugar results in the past 3 months' levels assessment (via the HbA1c (A1C) Test). 3 times above target. No Prostate issues, though (which I was originally going in to get checked following having more frequent urination, especially at night). Also, blood pressure is normal (117/74) and cholesterol levels are normal. So yeah, Type 2 Diabetes Diagnosis 'only'. Huzzah 🎉 Time to install MyFitnessPal, I guess.

@intertreeJK @WelfBrandolf The larger problem is we haven't had a successful business bring utility to the chain. As long as it's a speculation market, it's going to be hard to keep people, especially as the reserves deplete year after year. That's where I'm putting my focus with @IntersectCPC this year.

Cardano’s validator count hasn’t really grown much since 2021. In fact, more single SPOs have been shutting down lately, even some that were producing blocks regularly. There are two main reasons for that. First, staking rewards have been slowly declining, while $ADA’s price has also fallen, which makes running a pool less profitable. Second, hardware and operating costs keep rising. And if Leios and Peras are rolled out, that could add even more pressure. Leios is Cardano’s scaling upgrade, designed to increase throughput by making the network do more work in parallel. Peras is the fast-finality upgrade, meant to make transactions settle much faster. In practice, both should improve performance, but they also likely mean more complexity and higher infrastructure demands for operators.

I'm speaking about SecondFi's actual fuck up with setting up their Signing Code to release enough data On-Chain for people to reverse engineer the Private Keys. That problem was anything but a fake wallet update. It was in their official release. The Big Pey thing is a wholly different issue again.

@intertreeJK @eternlwallet I think "installing" fake wallet updates is different from transaction signing issues, as seen in one high profile case. Are there actually hardware wallet users that were robbed without getting scammed?
