At #CSW2026 in New York, IOE took part in discussions on women’s economic participation, skills and leadership, bringing in the employers’ perspective. A key takeaway was the need to keep strengthening talent pipelines — including through more investment in #STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education for girls and women, and by addressing barriers to employment, career progression and leadership. At an #EPIC (Equal Pay International Coalition) event with @UN_Women, @ILO and @BusinessatOECD, there was also a strong focus on what helps in practice: clear frameworks, supportive policy environments and social dialogue. At the UN preparatory discussions for the 2026 Science, Technology & Innovation Forum, IOE’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Shea Gopaul, spoke on behalf of the Business and Industry Major Group (BIMG) and IOE. Enterprises, particularly SMEs, play a key role in supporting the implementation of the #2030Agenda. One key challenge remains the “last mile of innovation.” Technology, AI, digital tools and data solutions need to reach factory floors, entrepreneurs and SMEs, where economic transformation takes place. At the same time, SMEs are navigating new digital Sustainability, Environmental, Social, and Governance standards (ESG). Practical, user-friendly digital tools will be important to help them participate in global value chains. Last week, the Meeting of Experts on the application of fundamental principles and rights at work and on violence and harassment in the world of sport took place at the @ilo in Geneva. Throughout the week, the Employers’ Group engaged constructively in social dialogue to advance practical approaches to the effective implementation of fundamental principles and rights at work and to address violence and harassment affecting professional athletes. The negotiations reflected the complexity of the sector, reinforcing the importance of clarity and recognition of the diverse realities that exist across different national and institutional contexts. This highlights the need for shared responsibilities and practical solutions that can be implemented effectively to support the sustainable development of the sector. The Employers’ Group was steered by Inmaculada Benito, who guided the discussions and ensured that the ground-level and sectoral expertise of the experts and advisors nominated by employers was reflected in the negotiations.
