This morning in Wajir County, Mr. Mohamednoor Abdikarim, the #Wajir East Sub-County Curriculum Support Officer and focal person for the @RaspberryPi_org project, together with the County Trainer, Mr. Salat Kheyley, and supported by three project champions, conducted a 15-minute sit-in assessment for Grade 8 learners at #JogbaruPrimary and Junior School. The assessment aimed to evaluate learners’ understanding and retention of the digital concepts covered so far under the programme. In a similar exercise in #Turkana County, Mr. Levy Amusha, the County Quality Assurance and Standards Officer, alongside Mr. Washington Odoyo, led the administration of a comparable assessment at #Nabulon Girls Primary and Junior School. The exercise, also targeting Grade 8 learners, was undertaken with the same objective of gauging learning progress and strengthening the delivery of digital literacy content across participating schools. These coordinated efforts underscore the commitment to ensuring quality implementation, continuous monitoring of learning outcomes, and evidence-based improvements in the delivery of digital learning across the FCDC counties.

The Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC), through its Livestock Sector Strengthening (#LSS) program, today handed over an assortment of veterinary drugs to the County Government of Marsabit, received by Dr. Bokhu, the Assistant Director of Veterinary Services. The FCDC team was warmly welcomed by the County Executive Committee Member (CCEM) for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Mr. Kanano, highlighting the strong collaboration between county leadership and development partners. The veterinary supplies will support the upcoming county-wide livestock vaccination campaign, covering areas from Laisamis to Kalacha across all sub-counties—an essential step in protecting livestock health and strengthening pastoralist livelihoods. Funded by @SwissEmbassyKE through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (@SwissDevCoop (SDC), this intervention reflects continued commitment to building resilient communities. This activity is part of the program’s Crisis Modifier component, enabling timely and flexible responses to emerging challenges facing pastoralist communities. #FCDC #Marsabit #LivestockSectorStrengthening #LivestockHealth #PastoralistResilience #SDC

The @Raspberry_Pi Foundation Digital Learning Project in West Pokot @WPCGovernment took a new and exciting twist this afternoon at Makutano Primary School. The visit brought together key education stakeholders to evaluate the progress of learners in the RPF ICT Computing curriculum. The Sub-County TSC Quality Assurance Officer, Mr. John Tuliapong, together with the RPF County Coordinator Mr. Kamtia, accompanied by one teacher from Psigirio School visited Makutano Primary School who have two ICT tutors. During the visit, the team conducted a brief sit-in assessment with 23 Grade 7 learners to gauge their understanding and comprehension of the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s ICT Computing curriculum. The learners demonstrated great enthusiasm and confidence as they attempted the quiz. Their willingness to participate and engage with the questions showed a strong interest in improving their digital knowledge and skills. In fact, the level of eagerness among the pupils made it difficult to limit participation, highlighting their curiosity and motivation to learn more about technology and computing. After the assessment, the team held a short knowledge-sharing session with the learners. During this discussion, students shared their experiences about the exercise and reflected on what they had learned. The session also provided valuable feedback on how the curriculum can be strengthened, especially in the teaching approach, to make digital learning more effective and engaging for learners.

The Community Land Act, 2016 was enacted to give effect to Article 63 of the Constitution of Kenya and to provide for the recognition, protection, and registration of community land rights. The Act empowers communities to own, manage, and govern their land through legally recognized structures such as Community Land Management Committees (CLMCs), ensuring transparency, accountability, and sustainable use of shared resources. Today, the Frontier Counties Development Council – Livestock sector strengthening program (FCDC-#LSS) commenced an induction training for the newly elected Community Land Management Committee (CLMC) of the Goriale community in Garissa County. The training aims to equip committee members with the knowledge and skills required to effectively discharge their roles and responsibilities under the Community Land Act, 2016, including community land governance, dispute resolution, record keeping, and sustainable land management. The induction was officially opened by the Area Member of County Assembly for Goriale Ward, Hon. Farhrudin Sadik, who emphasized the importance of strong community institutions in safeguarding community land rights and promoting development. He encouraged the newly elected committee members to uphold integrity, transparency, and inclusivity as they serve their community. This initiative marks an important milestone in strengthening community land governance and supporting communities to fully exercise their land rights in line with the law.

The three-day Samburu LBB monitoring exercise conducted from 16th to 18th February 2026 has successfully concluded, marking continued progress in strengthening inclusive, learner-centred education. The @TheActionKenya Foundation (TAF), in partnership with @FCDCKenya and the @TSC_KE carried out joint monitoring visits across five selected LBB implementation schools in Samburu (Maralal and Wamba Sub counties)under the @UNICEFKenya -funded programme. The exercise commenced with courtesy visits to the County Director of Education, Mr. Abraham Kenei, and the Deputy Director of Education, Mr. Hussein Gufu, reinforcing collaboration and alignment on inclusive education priorities. Supported by the Curriculum Support Officer, the team visited St. Paul’s Integrated School, Seneiya Special School, Maralal DEB Comprehensive School, Lkurroto Primary School, and Ntepes Primary School. Classroom observations focused on teacher practices, learner engagement, and the integration of play-based learning approaches. To strengthen evidence-based assessment, the team utilized a KoboCollect digital tool featuring structured questions designed to assess learner participation, responsiveness, and learning experiences within LBB-supported classrooms. The monitoring exercise generated valuable field insights on implementation progress, teacher experiences, learner interaction, and existing resource needs.

@FCDCKenya is pleased to join the Ministry of Lands officials in congratulating the Qoryale community on the election of their Community Land Management Committee (CLMC). This milestone strengthens community-led land governance, a crucial step towards securing land rights and promoting sustainable development in North Eastern Kenya. Secure land governance is the foundation of dryland resilience. With clear boundaries, transparent records, and functional committees, communities can protect their land from grabbing and fragmentation. Inclusive representation of women and youth ensures all voices are heard, while land-use planning safeguards vital grazing corridors and water points. Accountability in land-based revenue management builds trust and drives investment. When land is secure, investment follows. When governance is clear, conflict reduces. When communities control their land, development becomes sustainable #CommunityLandRights #FCDC #LandGovernanceMatters"

Earlier today, key education stakeholders from North Eastern Kenya convened to take stock of the state of education in the region, the existing historical and current challenges and chart a way forward on priority interventions. The meeting provided a platform for candid and solution-oriented deliberations, with particular focus on the region’s preparedness for the Competency-Based Education (#CBE) transition, learner enrolment trends, retention, infrastructure and human resource gaps, potential opportunities and the integrity of national examinations. Participants acknowledged the urgent need for evidence-informed interventions and resolved to commission a focused study to document the key structural, systemic, and socio-cultural challenges affecting education outcomes in the region. In addition, the stakeholders agreed to convene a major regional education symposium in mid-April, to be hosted in one of the North Eastern counties. The symposium will bring together policymakers, education practitioners, community leaders, and development partners to validate findings, build consensus, and develop a practical reform roadmap. A multi-sectoral steering committee was constituted to spearhead planning, resource mobilization, and overall coordination of the initiative. Addressing the participants, Garissa Township MP, Hon. Rtd. Major Dekow Barrow @DekowMajor , spoke extensively on the existential threat posed by examination malpractice, warning that it undermines credibility, erodes merit, and compromises the long-term prospects of learners and the region. He also highlighted the impact of irregular settlements and unplanned urban growth on access, infrastructure planning, and the overall quality of education. The meeting drew participation from prominent leaders, including former MPs Hon. Mohamed Elmi, Hon. Mohamed Maalim Mohamud (Mumad), Hon. Abdirahman Ali Hassan (Olow), Hon. Mohamed Hussein (Qaras), and Hon. Abdullahi Diriye (Dakalow). Also, in attendance were Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) CEO Dr. @iofarah Idle Omar and #NACONEK CEO Mr. Harun Yussuf, alongside other regional education stakeholders. The convening was led by Horn-Afric, a regional policy think tank, in partnership with FCDC and the North Eastern Youth Development (@NEYDKenya ), underscoring a shared commitment to safeguarding and advancing education standards in the region.
