I worked for SBC (Southwestern Bell Telecom) right out of undergrad (2003) and watched Ed Whitacre reassemble Ma Bell from the inside. It was incredible

It was 1947 and AT&T produced this film on how the entire post-war telephone network would operate. We see the how the network was clustered and how a call was manually switched by an operator. Stunning the number of independent phone companies in 1947— over 6000.
