Context/Details:
Verne Jay Troyer, born on January 1, 1969, in Sturgis, Michigan, was an American actor, comedian, and stunt performer, best known for his role as Mini-Me in the "Austin Powers" film series.
Standing at 2 feet 8 inches tall due to cartilage–hair hypoplasia, Troyer was one of the shortest men in the world. He grew up in an Amish family but left the community during his childhood. He graduated from Centreville High School in 1987, where he was later honored with a plaque.
Troyer's film career began in 1994 as a stunt double in "Baby's Day Out." He then appeared in several 1990s films, including "Dunston Checks In," "Jingle All the Way," "Men in Black," and "My Giant." His breakthrough came with the role of Mini-Me in "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" (1999), a part that was expanded due to his impressive performance. He reprised this role in "Austin Powers in Goldmember" (2002) and worked with Mike Myers again in "The Love Guru" (2008). Troyer also appeared in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (2001) and "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" (2009), among other films. He was also known for his appearances in reality TV shows like "The Surreal Life" and "Celebrity Big Brother 6."
Troyer's personal life was marked by challenges, including a leaked private home video in 2008, leading to legal action against TMZ and others for invasion of privacy and copyright infringement.
Verne Troyer and Genevieve Gallen reportedly got married on February 22, 2004. However, the marriage was short-lived, and they filed for an annulment the following day. The annulment was finalized shortly thereafter, effectively ending their brief marriage. He was then in a relationship with Brittney Powell from 2007 until his death and appeared with her and her son on "Celebrity Wife Swap" in 2015.
Troyer struggled with alcoholism and underwent treatment for it. He was hospitalized in early April 2018 after an incident at his home.
On April 21, 2018, Troyer passed away at a hospital in Los Angeles at the age of 49. His death was later ruled a suicide by alcohol intoxication. He was interred in Leonidas Cemetery, St. Joseph County, Michigan.
