Guys. Can we do opensource cab hailing services to rival Uber? India did a similar thing. The reason why I think we can win, is that, we’ll not be profit driven like Uber. We take as little as possible. It could b subscription based or a very modest take per trip. Enough to run the services and maybe fund a co-working space. Another angle I’m seeing is that, it could give an opportunity to new devs to get a hands on experience. This could be SDE, support, analytics etc. Just some crazy shower thoughts. I stan Kenyan tech community. This is impressive to witness. With great inventions like Spairally for public Safety. The founder has challenged the entire Industry of Africa's Silcon Savannah. Suddenly, serious Kenyan ML AI researchers have been summoned, sharing their papers in Universities abroad. Clearly, Kenya has talent but not just for Public safety.

I simply just ran a search on arXiv , I tried every variation: Wendy Akinyi or Akinyi Wendy or Wendy Freza etc.. and guess what, nothing shows up, Ofcourse. This is quite surprising for someone who claims to have been publishing research papers since August 2025 cz that's nearly a year of supposed academic output. The good thing about arXiv is that every submission is logged, indexed and publicly searchable such that if you've ever published anything on that platform, there is a trace. That's literally how the system works. so z I think we can all agreed that the "I've been publishing research papers since August 2025" narrative just collapsed entirely...lmfao

While you are busy looking for research papers, NCBA group are hiring very decent engineers. Checkout their pages. Tip: You do not need to know physics.

I think I know why people hate PHP. And I do not blame them. See, most people want PHP because it's not strict. In a language like Rust, 90% of the time you're struggling to appease the borrow checker and the type checker. In PHP, you just want "5" + 5 and deploy your laptop’s e-commerce shop. But this flexibility comes to haunt you at scale. You now have like 50k LOC, and you can't even enforce the shape of $Order. Progress becomes slow, and you start hating your Western Heights job. Luckily, we do have things that can help. And no, I'm not talking about TDD. That can only do so much. I'm talking about static analyzers like PHPstan. These bring back the strict behaviour that you were running away from before. I'm writing this because I'm seeing fresh code with a function that returns an object. What could go wrong? I do get it. Being overly strict can slow the team down. But being ship-fast-minded will haunt you later. You need a guy like me and a first shipper in your team to balance the scales.

We had this conversations with @shadrac_matata and it happened that we have a shared experience when it comes to the Kenyan Market especially the B2B which heavily relies on existing systems that already have built trust with them. Not necessarily Legacy systems perse but systems like Zoho, Odoo, Business Central, Bigin, Google workspace, Amazon, Microsoft Azure, etc. Pitching to businesses already using the above you have to be very intentional with compatibility, intergration, security, compliance, Data privacy etc. They are tier 1 of african SMEs. Tier 2 are the ones who deal with the final consumer in the chain.
