Can you tell who's doing the thinking during a lesson? Is it most students? Or just a few students? For how long are they doing the thinking? Thanks to @dillardsarah for inspiration behind this video. I was fascinated by this. Check it out @ishillman youtu.be/M5erJx9Zdhk

@Mr_Oldfield @dillardsarah Excellent video. So important & agree that compliance can give appearance of learning. Deep critical thinking, students doing the thinking & learning transfer>compliance & conformity. Part 2 - let’s see a high cognitive classroom in action!

How many levels of failure do you need in your classroom? Minimum #grading is a good practice to improve the accuracy & equity of grading for those not yet ready or able to move away from the percentage scale. Minimum grading reduces the levels of failure from 60 to 10.

@JoshKunnath ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc/Searc… - it will actually produce a solid lesson plan. Teacher still very necessary to facilitate students critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, examining divergent sources, etc. It is insane though.

I'm hearing about easily accessible AI that students can use to create original, proficient writing on any prompt. As an English teacher, I'm concerned. Anyone know something about this?

Tier 1 is IT. When it is where it needs to be, Achievement increases Misbehaviors decline Learning happens Stop throwing money, programs, interventions & the kitchen sink at Tiers 2 & 3. Tier 1 is where our work is & the problems get solved, And it requires intentional design.

while supporting thr partner, they recognizd mistakes they made so they went back &corrected the mistakes n their own work. Class asked the T if they could partner like that more often. This is a learner centered classroom! 3/3 @EmAre459 @shelbywglover @ishillman @SuperRStephens

Pt1: This T is in the trenches of @modernclassproj and she is experiencing one of the most common Qs I receive from Ts before they launch MCP. The distance between the 1st lrnr & the last lrnr has spread. How do you manage it? Today she split the class according to the data...1/3

New research suggests young children don't seek help in school, even when they need it because they care deeply about the way others think about them. In fact, kids sometimes go so far as to cheat at simple games to look smart. @kayla_good_ @sciam scientificamerican.com/article/why-ki…

@edutopia C - agree with later starting times and research backs this, but several variables. Also need community support.

I avoid the word "earn" when discussing grades w/ students. It implies a transaction in which teachers compensate students w/ a grade in return for their work. But I want my grades to simply communicate their achievement. It's not a factory. It's a 21st century classroom.

Differentiation doesn’t just apply to students. Teachers and leaders have a wide diversity of skills and experience as well. They need personalized professional development and support. Otherwise, their time will be wasted, which is the most precious resource they have.

The best way to build strong relationships with students is to engage in frequent 1-1 conversations. The challenge is finding the time to do that. The key is to design a classroom where students drive their own learning so you have the time to drive the individual discussions.
