Jio and airtel have silently dropped their basic 1GB/day 4G data plans. Now, their basic 4G data plan costs around ₹300 a month. They've also deliberately slowed down 4G internet speeds just for pushing people to switch to 5G and pay even more. So poor people have only two choices, either pay ₹300/month for 4G speeds that feel like 3G now, or recharge with even more expensive 5G internet plans. Even if someone in rural India does not use the internet much, they still have to pay ₹300/month just to make basic calls. If you don't recharge, you lose incoming calls and messages within a week, and if it continues for a few months, your SIM is deactivated & your mobile number is sold to someone else. It's alarming considering that 60% of Indians earn less than ₹10,000/month. The Modi government has handed the telecom market to just two companies, giving them unchecked power to decide how much Indians must pay for basic connectivity.

As a Computer Science student I learned COBOL, Fortran, Pascal and C in college and later picked up other languages as per the requirement… Was good at coding before I changed my career plan. Sometimes, I still write code for personal projects. Now that AI is taking over much of the coding work, I’m unsure if I should encourage my children to study programming... Would it be better for them to focus on pure mathematics instead? Please advise.
