Thank you Spain. I implore other countries to mobilise their fleet to grant the flotilla safe sailing to Gaza, and deploy a real humanitarian convoy to break the blockade. That's what people want. That's what humanity commands. If not in the time of a Genocide, when??

🚨🇪🇸 Breaking: Spain has dispatched a navy vessel to support the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza. Speaking from New York, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Spain “condemns the genocide” in Gaza and demanded Israel uphold international law and allow Spanish citizens to sail safely in the Mediterranean. The offshore patrol ship Furor will depart from Cartagena, ready to assist or rescue flotilla boats carrying aid. Spain also rallied 17 countries behind a joint warning that any attack on the flotilla will bring accountability before international courts. Italy has likewise sent a frigate to the area.

Italy is a member of NATO (and Spain, too). If Israeli forces attack an Italian ship in international waters, it would constitute a declaration of war against every member state, and they will all be obliged to retaliate militarily. I am not sure everyone appreciates the gravity of what's happening around the flotilla, but this is shaping up to be a major international incident

Italy to deploy second naval ship in support of the Global Sumud Flotilla. This is more about ensuring freedom of navigation in international waters and upholding maritime law. Still, this is totally unprecedented and the tide is turning.

World leaders must use #UNGA79 to raise their voices in support of the negotiation of a treaty prohibiting & regulating #AutonomousWeapons. Life & death decisions cannot be delegated to machines. It is time to draw a line with new int'l law, & prevent the automation of killing.
