@MattBruenig @BigMeanInternet I think you're conflating an is and an ought here. PG is responding to the common claim that "got rich" implies "did evil", and is saying these people are getting rich without doing evil. This is a different claim to saying they "should" get rich from this

@BigMeanInternet The more narrow answer is that owning a company that is growing at 93% per month (whatever that means, revenue?) should not mean your personal net worth grows by that much as he says in a subsequent tweet. It’s a mistake to conflate the two as if that compensation is correct.

I mean, that is a very common story, yeah? The moral compromises required to maintain a continuous level of high growth as your ambitions scale bigger and bigger? I don't think a lot of people would struggle with that one.

This is a wonderful program, and I would be happy if my tax dollars went to it (they don't, it's charity).
When you interview people who grew up in/around chaos, dysfunction, and drugs, one of the things you constantly hear is how much they remember, and value, the relatively rare moments of normalcy with their fathers/mothers, and especially those with a touch of grace and dignity.
Like the young woman Beauty I spent four years documenting, whose favorite memories of childhood are the Sundays visiting her mom in prison, when they would go into the courtyard and she would braid her hair, without the scolding from the guards.
You shouldn't humiliate the family of a prisoner, especially the children, and too often we do that.
