
Imagine walking into a car dealership and saying:
"I love this car, but it's out of my budget. What if we remove a wheel to bring the cost down?"
The dealer stares at you, confused: "But… you won't be able to drive it."
"That's fine. I'll make it work somehow!"
This is exactly what happens when clients try to slash project scope to fit a budget that’s too small.
You end up with a three-wheeled website — and guess what?
It’s not getting you anywhere.
Here are my two rules for pricing projects:
1️⃣ Never negotiate your rate. Instead, negotiate the scope.
2️⃣ If cutting the scope means the project won’t achieve even the minimum viable goals, the most professional (and kind) response is to say no.
Because a three-wheeled car — or website — isn't going to save money.
It's just an expensive way to stay parked.
