I built a user-submitted directory of all the niche groups, clubs, and communities happening in Vancouver. It's all free and open-source.

@JevJournalist_ Had Flow reps insist I can’t buy an esim while overseas. Months later going to JA for a few weeks decided to buy a travel esim lo and behold its using flow. In the flow store one day and decided to ask a rep about it she told me listen I don’t know anything don’t ask me anything.

@moniquepowell the frustrating part is we got to watch the entire newspaper industry get disrupted in real time in the US and UK. by the time it reached jamaica the failures were already known. yet local media still treated digital like a side project instead of the main product.

They’ve been trying to pivot and transition from way back (from when I was there more than 15 years ago). Never quite panned out. It can be disorienting when a business that did well building one thing, has to move away from that one thing in major way. So they try to hedge their bets by preserving the original thing while experimenting on the side with other things and calling it a pivot…when sometimes it would have been better to more/less obliterate the original thing and build from first principles. Making the right call is harder than it looks though. Always is.

Gleaner is about 4 years too late. Their pivot should have come a long time ago to match the shift in technology and social media. They also made no (good) attempts at capturing the young audience. And that's what happens when age and pompousness steers a ship.

@ivanboroja As long as you can still deep link into different views most dynamic systems make a trade off by going too far left and breaking or not supporting proper linking. Great job though this looks great.

@marcgayle This digital nomad one is pretty good, all these ideas are actually.

“Live & Create in Jamaica Digital Nomad Visa”
US$2,000/year individual. US$3,500 family. US$100K income minimum.
Jamaica attracted 4M+ tourists in 2024.
If we can attract 50,000 digital nomads, that’s at least US$100M in direct visa revenue. Not to mention the other spending they do in the economy while they are here.
Many revenue layers: visa fees, local spending, boost seasonal hotel & Airbnb occupancy, co-working, nomad-to-investor pipeline.
