‼️🚨🇩🇪🇷🇺 At first, there was one issue on which Joseph Goebbels could not agree with Adolf Hitler. That issue was Russia. Goebbels admired Russian culture. In his youth, he was deeply impressed by the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Leo Tolstoy, and Nicholas Gogol. Later, he became one of the most consistent advocates of an alliance between two great European peoples - the Germans and the Russians. In the early 1920s, in party newspapers, Goebbels not only cultivated a positive image of Russia but also expressed hope that the Bolsheviks would find a “Russian national path to socialism.” In his view, the Bolsheviks were not synonymous with the Talmudic Tribe; rather, he believed that the decisive struggle between Talmudic internationalist forces and Russian nationalist forces still lay ahead. Goebbels expected to find support for his views in the widely discussed book Mein Kampf. Instead, he was disappointed. Hitler regarded the Bolsheviks as instruments of Talmudic world order, rejected an alliance with Russia, and, on the contrary, called for the conquest and colonization of Russian territories. At first, this disagreement did not shake Goebbels’s pro-Russian sympathies. In early 1926, he wrote an article entitled “Orientation Toward the West or the East,” in which he unequivocally advocated an alliance with “Russia as an equal partner.” In a speech in February 1926, he praised the Bolsheviks’ agrarian reforms but criticized their industrial policy, which he believed was doomed to fail because the “J***** question” had not yet been resolved. At the same time, he hoped that a “socialist national state” would lead to Russia’s spiritual and political “awakening.” Hitler was dissatisfied with such views. At a party meeting that same month, he made his own position the official party line. Goebbels, who attended the meeting, recorded in his diary with horror: “Hitler spoke for two hours. I am so stunned. Hitler - a reactionary? The question of Russia: completely out of place. Italy and England are natural allies. Terrible! Our task is to crush Bolshevism. Bolshevism is a J***** scheme! We must conquer Russia!” This speech triggered a crisis of identity for Goebbels. “I no longer fully believe in Hitler. That is the terrible thing: I have lost my inner support. I have become only a shadow of myself.” In the following years, he continued to write about “Holy Russia,” to which “the past and the future belonged, but not the present,” and to hope that the Bolsheviks would embark upon a nationalist path. However, by 1930, the “socialist” opposition with which Goebbels had been associated had definitively fallen out of favor with the party leadership. Goebbels submitted to the party line - and thereafter no longer publicly expressed his pro-Russian sympathies.
