Breaking News: WeChat Announces WeChat Pay Expansion to Five New Countries—South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore Now Support WeChat Pay Integration.
Users can now make direct payments via WeChat scan-to-pay using local QR code systems in these regions: South Korea’s ZeroPay, Sri Lanka’s LANKAQR, Thailand’s PromptPay, Malaysia’s DuitNow QR, and Singapore’s SGQR+ (specifically those displaying both the NETS and WeChat Pay logos).
To date, WeChat’s cross-border payment service has expanded its reach to 78 countries and regions, supporting settlements in 36 different currencies, with over 70 million registered users located outside of mainland China. By 2025, the number of times overseas users access WeChat "Mini Programs" is projected to exceed 5 billion; among these users, those in Malaysia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Italy, and France have demonstrated the fastest growth in WeChat Pay usage.
