One of the things I loved about my years as a minor league baseball broadcaster was getting to know future stars when they were just getting started. I first saw Fred McGriff as a skinny, 21-year-old kid who was overmatched in Triple-A. Thirty-nine years later, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Before he was named American League Rookie of the Year (2007) and MVP (2008), I watched Dustin Pedroia defy expectations as a diminutive minor league shortstop. His listed height was 5’8, his actual height was closer to 5’6, and he carried himself like he was 6’5. I suspect I am going to have a similar experience with Jerrod Calhoun. I got to know Jerrod when he was a 22-year-old student assistant at UC in the 2003-04 season. What stood out as the time was how well-connected he was to high school recruiting in the state of Ohio. He seemed to have a relationship with numerous coaches and most of the highly-ranked players. As a student assistant, he tried to anticipate how he could best help the coaches before they even requested it. And he soaked up knowledge from a great staff like a sponge, learning from Bob Huggins (935 wins, two Final Fours), Mick Cronin (527 wins, one Final Four) and Andy Kennedy (411 wins, including the most in Ole Miss history). I was in my fourth year as UC’s radio announcer, and I remember my broadcast partner Chuck Machock being impressed with Jerrod as well. They shared Cleveland-area roots, and Chuck took an instant liking to a young coach with a great work ethic and no ego. I have enjoyed watching Jerrod’s coaching journey ever since, and I am fired-up that his next stop is Cincinnati. The UC basketball program has landed an up-and-coming star.

How much longer will we pretend old designs can’t outlast the new ones? Case in point: A-10 Warthog Satellite images just showed 24 A-10 Warthogs parked at a Jordanian airbase, right on Iran’s doorstep. This jet was supposed to be retired years ago—too old, too slow for modern air wars. But Iran doesn’t fight with fighter jets. It fights with swarms of cheap Shahid drones, fast attack boats in the Strait of Hormuz, and proxy militias that hide in civilian areas. Against those threats, the A-10 is a perfect predator. They’ve fitted it with laser-guided rockets to swat drones out of the sky without wasting million-dollar missiles—some Warthogs already sport drone kill markings on the fuselage. Its 30mm GAU-8 cannon turns small boats into scrap metal, and its ability to loiter for hours makes it a nightmare for anything moving on the surface. In February 2026, A-10s were photographed circling U.S. mine-hunting ships, training for exactly this fight: low, slow, and devastating. The bird isn’t dying. It’s being reborn for the asymmetric wars of tomorrow. What does it say about modern warfare when a 50-year-old plane is suddenly the best answer to today’s threats? Follow for more daily mind-blowing American wins.

It’s hard not to feel the sting when we look back and ask ourselves: how did this happen—twice? How did a country that claims to value leadership, character, and competence end up choosing a man with a documented history of dishonesty, manipulation, and predatory behavior over two women who had spent their lives working, leading, and showing up with real qualifications? Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris weren’t perfect—and they were never allowed to be. Every move they made was dissected, every word twisted, every laugh scrutinized. They were called too ambitious, too cold, too loud, too quiet, not likable enough, not relatable enough. Meanwhile, a man who openly bragged about assault, who lied constantly, who showed zero regard for decency, was handed the benefit of the doubt—not once, but twice. It’s not just political. It’s personal. For every woman who’s been talked over in a meeting, passed over for a promotion, or warned not to come off “too strong,” watching that unfold was a punch in the gut. We saw the message loud and clear: that when women speak truth with power, they’re threatening—and when men lie with swagger, they’re leaders. This isn't just about two elections. It’s about centuries of conditioning that teaches us to forgive men for their worst and punish women for their best. It’s about how deeply sexism and misogyny still run, even when we think we’ve evolved past them. It was never just about Hillary or Kamala. It was about all of us. The betrayal still lingers—not just from the system, but from the people who upheld it, even unknowingly. The women who internalized misogyny. The men who looked the other way. The media that tore women down for sport. And the society that keeps asking women to be exceptional, only to tell us we’re still not enough. © Reddit #archaeohistories

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our father, Don Hasselbeck, who suffered cardiac arrest and passed away today. We want to thank our parents’ neighbors and all the medical professionals who came to his aid. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, friend, coach, player, coworker, artist, mentor, and storyteller. Despite being an All-American at Colorado and a Super Bowl Champion with the Raiders, what we are most proud of is the leader he was for our family. He helped set our feet on solid ground. Married to and in love with our mom, Betsy, for 50 years, they built their house on the rock of Jesus Christ. Our dad’s prayer journals, in his meticulous handwriting and in a rainbow of pen colors, hold each of our names and needs. Many of you who have known our father, have been thoughtfully prayed for in the pages of his journals. There is a 6’ 7” hole in our hearts. He will be so missed by so many. We are beyond grateful that he was our dad and look forward to Heaven and being all together again. “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” - Matthew 7: 24-25
