I have a great idea @NCAA why not make it 84 teams? 98? 112! Who gives a shit it's more money! College sports has 27 bigger problems to solve and they decided to mangle the greatest sports event of the year. Regular season will mean less, and March Madness becomes less special.

Sources: The NCAA has initiated the final steps to expand the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments to 76 teams. The expansion is on track to be formalized in the upcoming weeks, with mid-May as the target. The 76-team tournaments begin next year. espn.com/mens-college-b…

@conorsen I think it fits well. People are frustrated with affordability. But they are still spending on the small ticket items. They are foregoing the big ticket items (like houses) because they are seen as unobtainable and they allow themselves to splurge on smaller items as indulgences

The fact that seemingly every major Hollywood film has been beating box office expectations lately and it’s increasingly being driven by premium screens is an interesting trend given the broader affordability discourse.

@conorsen It’ll change when they’re all 55 and younger. Then we’ll have 30 years of stability on the court. 🫠

It’s always good to engage with people and understand their illiberal worldview. That way there’s no confusion about context or jokes. Americans are ready to reevaluate our relationship with Israel. But I suspect they’d find siding with Hamas a bridge too far!

an awful lot of people promote local models when they're unusable (hardware wise, perf wise, or simple outcomes) one of the many small litmus tests of "does this person have anything to contribute to the conversation"

@mattyglesias @neeratanden The protests stopped because it was game of touch football for children to play. But now the game is full contact and doesn’t seem as fun.

Hey @DavidSacks - who are the people outside of the Republican Party fanning the flames of this war. Name names or retract.
Tom Wright@thomaswright08

Jaw dropping comments on the Iran war by the Trump administration’s AI czar David Sacks earlier today on the All In podcast. Warns a faction is trying to get Trump to escalate in Iran, says it could render the Gulf uninhabitable and Israeli nuclear use. Calls for a negotiated settlement. Some quotes below. Link in next post. “we should try to find the off-ramp.” “This is a good time to declare victory and get out,” “You are seeing, however, a faction of people, I'd say largely but not exclusively in the Republican Party, who want to escalate the war.” “So if the Iranians get hit, if their oil and gas infrastructure gets hit, they've already said they're going to engage in tit-for-tat retaliation against the Gulf States. And we saw there was recently, the Iranians blew up this giant oil depot in Oman.” “Furthermore, there's an even worse, I think, scenario from there, which is the region is very dependent on desalination plants. I think something like 70% of Riyadh gets their water from desalination.” “I think it's something like 100 million people on the Arabian Peninsula that get their water from desal. I mean, it's basically a desert, right? And those desal plants are soft targets.” “If you see that type of destruction continue, you could literally render the Gulf almost uninhabitable.” “If this war continues for weeks or months, then Israel could just be destroyed” “Then you have to worry about Israel escalating the war by contemplating using a nuclear weapon, which would truly be catastrophic.” “if escalation doesn't lead anywhere good, then you have to think about, well, how do you de-escalate? De-escalation, I think, involves reaching some sort of ceasefire agreement or some sort of negotiated settlement with Iran.”

the concept of boring conflict resolution seems dead 1. anthropic didn't like how the govt used their stuff - that is ok 2. govt doesn't want constraints - that is ok they should just go their separate ways, this whole punishing them for the conflict thing is unnecessary
