May 23, 1982 was the last time the Sixers beat the Celtics in the playoffs. ‘Twas a Game 7 in Boston too. Andrew Toney and Dr. J combined for 63 points.
As for what was going on in the world:
— Michael Jordan hit the game-winner vs. Georgetown two months earlier
— Michael Jackson was still recording Thriller.
— #1 song in the country was Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder’s “Ebony & Ivory.”

John Woo is renowned for his intense preference for the Beretta 92 (specifically the 92F and 92FS models) in his films, a choice he considers essential for his "gun-fu" aesthetic.

Most people picture Philly as skylines and glass towers, but the real city lives in the rows. Block after block of brick homes, front steps, and narrow streets, that’s where Philadelphia was built. Long before Center City views, these houses held generations of workers, families, and neighbors who made the city what it is.
This is where life happens every day, where steps turn into conversations, where everyone knows your business whether you like it or not, and where blocks become their own little worlds.
The skyline might get all the attention, but Philly’s identity is in these streets. In the bricks, the steps, the shared walls, and the neighborhoods that feel like home.

Had the honor of writing the liner notes essay for @Criterion's John Singleton box set. RIP to him, and thank you for being so bullish about telling our stories. criterion.com/current/posts/…

“[The boxset] completes the vision of a director like Singleton, who made his films for the people and by the people.”
For @ebertvoices, I reviewed @Criterion’s release of John Singleton’s Hood Trilogy feat. Boyz n the Hood, Poetic Justice, and Baby Boy.
