Any time someone says “I’m so lucky” I kinda cringe.
I can understand If you’re not a religious person and saying “ I’m very blessed” that this would be the alternative, but in my opinion, luck is fickle and unfulfilling:
You create your own luck and your own life
And any time someone realizes this, it actually allows them to enjoy the process even more and take more pride and accountability in themselves knowing they put in the work necessary to receive the outcome
It didn’t fall into their lap
That’s why I love this interview from Tommy Pham. Love him, hate him or somewhere in between, you have to respect the fact that he acknowledged that he wouldn’t be where he is without other people in his life, but also understands that this kind of message will resonate with certain types of people who are actually willing to do what it takes to reach the peak of their craft.
Anyone who gets “lucky” still feels unhappy knowing they didn’t earn it.
It’s the process that makes the end result enjoyable if you took the necessary steps.
And doing the absolute best you can with the cards you’re dealt.
Some have it better than others. Complaining about it gets you nothing. Net zero.
(Probably even sets you back a bit)
There’s no shortcuts. Only leverage points and focus.
Maximize those two and you’ll lap people.
“Tommy Pham has ALWAYS been likeable”
I’m starting to agree @GeoffPontesBA

"Who is going to be on your bus?"
A question my dad asked me at 18 years old.
You see, my dad was a man of few words but when he spoke you listened.
At 18, I was getting my first taste of success.
•Drafted 9th overall
•Signed the big contract
•Being told I was going to be great
There was a line out of the station to be on my bus.
At 23, I was getting my first taste of failure.
•Sporting a 6+ ERA
•Sent to the minor leagues
•Being told that I was a bust
There were plenty of empty seats on my bus.
A question that I brushed over at 18, hit home at 23.
"Who is going to be on your bus?"
That question is one I think about most days.
That question is one that has defined my relationships.
That question is one I thought was silly at 18 and cherish in my 30s.
That toy bus in the picture is the same toy bus my dad gave me at 18.
You see my dad passed away a few years ago but I know he was on my bus.
My friends, fill your bus with people that are on it for the long haul not ride the highs and exit at the lows.
My challenge to you is to consider whose bus you are on.
Do they know it?
If not, let them know.
