We know how procurement works: it often defaults to the cheapest option, not necessarily the one with the best specs. Llamas took this literally, twisting it into the claim that Sara doesn’t know how to use a computer. She bought her own device, so clearly that interpretation doesn’t hold. Leaders often speak in a self-deprecating way to empower their teams. As a manager, I’ve done the same. I used to be a trainer and I know I was so good at it back in the day, but over time my role shifted more toward strategy than execution. That doesn’t mean I’ve lost the ability to train, but I would also defer training to someone who does it day-to-day because they may do it better than I can now. My role has become more evaluative. I can recognize what good training looks like even if I’m not the one delivering it. Not being hands-on with the technical side of the everyday grind doesn’t make a leader less qualified. Airline CEOs don’t fly planes, but they’re still responsible for running the airline company.
