@jackandhenry

I have the right answers. Don’t fight it. You know I’m right.

The latest estimate on the cost of the Iran war is $29 billion, but Pentagon officials told Senators that figure does not include repairs to US military facilities damaged by Iranian attacks.

@SebastiansDoor @jamiedupree Do a little homework. Where do you think those billions of dollars went in Ukraine and why has half of Congress visited ever-dangerous war zone of Ukraine since the start of the war?

@jamiedupree Unprecedented? Huh. Journalist Jamie? You gonna do your job or just let that stand out there and not be challenged? Simple google search would prove it wrong. (California Prop 8, 2008)

Sec. Scott Bessent just confirmed that the UAE leaving OPEC will flood the market with oil. This is on top of record U.S. production. No more letting foreign cartels dictate gas prices. Hopefully we will see fuel prices coming down soon.

@jamiedupree I wonder if he meant you, Journalist Jamie? There’s no way he lumped you in with all those other unbiased reporters.

Sen. Mike Lee R-UT blaming Capitol Hill reporters for the woes of the Republican Party.
Mike Lee@BasedMikeLee

Have you ever wondered why the U.S. government seems always to get bigger, more powerful, and more expensive, even when Republicans are in charge? I’m convinced it has a lot to do with the way the left has weaponized the Capitol Hill press corps. The Capitol Hill press consists overwhelmingly of far-left progressive activists. In the Senate, they follow lawmakers from meeting to meeting in the hallways, aggressively interrupting conversations and barking questions that sound faintly journalistic but are little more than progressive talking points. Many of their questions seem far more designed to move lawmakers to the left—and shame us when we don’t—than to elicit information with any journalistic objectivity. It appears to be working, as Republican lawmakers routinely help Democrats enact Democrat priorities. Meanwhile, you essentially never see Democrats helping Republicans enact conservative priorities. While it’s difficult to prove the causal connection between this aggressive form of “journalistic advocacy” and Republican lawmakers’ eagerness to advance the ball for Democrats, I’m firmly convinced that the left is getting its money’s worth out of this exclusive lobbying force—which has no significant, conservative counter-balance. It’s arguably the most effective lobbying force money can buy.

When DOGE started cutting National Weather Service staff, there were also cuts in the number of daily balloon launches to gather weather data. The graphic on the left is what went up today at 8 am EDT (1200z). The graphic on the right is from May 2, 2023.

I wrote about this in my newsletter. The Weather Service didn't launch balloons recently and got surprised by tornadoes in Kansas. DOGE cuts at NWS cut out weather balloon launches which gather data for storm prediction. You are less safe because of that choice.

@jackandhenry @jamiedupree @JimCantore No. All the GS-13 and -14 with over 30 years of experience left or were forced to leave. The NWS is hiring GS 5-7-9 employees right out of college to cover the cuts. You can’t replace experience.

@jackandhenry @jamiedupree @JimCantore Actually given the way computer models work, the 12Z is more important. The 18Z is important to add when afternoon convection is expected. I love your passion, but your meteorological knowledge seems... lacking... Ask questions. Be a positive contribution to the issue.

@jackandhenry @jamiedupree @JimCantore Very cool with ACARS if they're able to feed some of the data in there. Does it provide dewpoint data too? That's not available in the planes I fly. I'd imagine ACARS provides better, more current coverage at 300-200mb, but less granular info below that.

@therobdale @jamiedupree @JimCantore If you followed the thread that started with Cantore, you’d see two balloons ARE being done at the offices. There were 18z and 00z balloons flown. Twice a day. That’s the requirement. When there’s weather looming, a 18z flight is much more useful than a 12z

@jackandhenry @jamiedupree @JimCantore Oh okay - I wanted to clarify that you are absolutely wrong when you say they are being done. The map is quite clear. I jumped in because Jamie misunderstood some of the context. The missing balloons can have an impact, but not how he thought.
