It takes a lot to get 15 Economists to agree on anything - so the fact that we have all signed up to this letter is a clear sign of the danger we are in. Having promised to get the country back, we are needlessly exacerbating the current recession. A 🧵 img.scoop.co.nz/media/pdfs/241…

Ruth Etting, "America's Sweetheart of Song", was born on this day in 1896. She was immensely popular in the 1920s. The much-recorded song "Button Up Your Overcoat" from 1929. youtube.com/watch?v=AixtJD…

You love to see it. Hydro storage in NZ is near its nominal maximum. Average renewable percentage for the last week is 96 percent. Right now, we're generating more power from solar than from gas.

@MarkGraham_Akl Because theywant to destroy rail. Any way they can. Our only hope in this term is to get Shane Jones to object. There are miles of new sleepers and track lying along NAL that need to be laid. Jones' project. Embarrassing as hell

Why would you cancel something before determining if it’s a bad deal? Oh - “if it’s Labour then bad”. (Are we actually paying these people a salary for thinking like this?

If they are still taking advice about the replacement then why didn't they take friggin advice before cancelling the original friggin contract? Interislander replacements: 'We're continuing to take advice' - Willis rnz.co.nz/news/political…

Final insult. I can't block ads. Instead get "no ads on Premium+, get it now" and blocks the Maybe Later option. Once the leading platform, now shite. A real shame. Blue horizon only now. Bye

Well it's finally happening. My departure from this once-excellent place. The final insult the inability to block ads, instead an offer of Premium+ which l can't ignore ie the "maybe later" button is inactivated. Sad really I'm over on the blue horizon

Freakin hell Luxon thinks that phones in schools are a bigger threat to kids educations than poor kids starving. "What's the biggest problem we've got in education? Phones are a big contributor to our kids not paying attention and not being able to learn." rnz.co.nz/news/political…

Looking back on the demise of TV3 news, they were fantastic in covering national biosecurity and biodiversity issues like kauri dieback, Hauraki Gulf incursions and protection programmes. I hope a rescue plan can be made to protect local news at least.

@FPayne100 I was fooled by Thorne's comment when first selected for the ABs. "Now l can be a double NZ rep" - referring to cricket. He never lacked self belief

Jock McKenzie today becomes the first man to play at first-class level for Auckland in both rugby and cricket since Graham Gedye in 1956. Bob Cunis played cricket for Auckland and rugby for an Auckland XV in the 60s. Recently, Jono Hickey, cricket for ND and rugby for Auckland.

I am a biosecurity professional of 40 years experience at all levels. I know of no pest control operators who have been constrained by the current law. Not one. The proposed law change suits nobody other than lazy hunters and gun shops.
Russell Brown@publicaddress

This is no benefit that even begins to match the risk of having such weapons in circulation. To reintroduce them after the difficult, messy job of removing them would be grotesquely stupid.

@simonbwilson @nzherald I campaigned for his high ranking on the GP list. A truly amazing man. Uniquely intelligent, empathetic, humble, driven, positive. Such a loss to Pacifica and NZ
