@krassenstein I don’t disagree with your point that Desantis is doing this for reasons that are completely self-serving and odious, but also: Disney is the fucking worst. I applaud removal of taxpayer-funded subsidies for the mouse even if it’s being done for “the wrong reasons”

BREAKING: This morning Governor DeSantis officially signed into law the removal of Walt Disney’s special tax district. This move isn't happening because DeSantis thinks it's best for the state, but instead it's best for his political ambitions after Disney decided to speak out against the bigoted laws that he supports, which harm the LGBTQ+ community. Now instead of Disney taking care of 25,000-acres of land and 175 miles of roadways in Central Florida, it will be up to the state to do that. What's best for DeSantis isn't what's best for Florida, and what's best for America isn't a Fascist form of government where corporations are penalized for speaking out for what they believe in.   Republicans want "Free Speech" only when it helps their own cause.

@elonmusk Even if the first paragraph of this is true: Activism is free speech.

Twitter has had a massive drop in revenue, due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists. Extremely messed up! They’re trying to destroy free speech in America.

While the world is discussing whether or not Russians commit genocide in Ukraine, the director of broadcasting proposes to drown Ukrainian children in the river or burn them in houses. I’m afraid that we can expect more horror when even skeptics will not doubt that it is genocide

@mcmire I think it’s interesting that the declarative UI approach that is one of the hallmarks of React is now also the vendor-preferred approach for native iOS and Android development too, which is a shift that I doubt many mobiles devs foresaw five years ago. I sure didn’t!

@jacknutting How has it been five years already? 😅 I'm still using React! I think the movement from classes to functions, as well as the addition of hooks, has made the API easier to work and more approachable. Also testing is easier. Managing state esp in a big app is still tricky though.

@adamdavidson @FrankConniff I was exactly that age at that time, and even though I lived very far from NYC, I understood even then that he was a bully, a braggart, a lout, and probably a crook. How anyone ever didn’t perceive this about him has been puzzling me for years.

@Foone In Sweden, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone make this mistake. And that’s despite the fact that we don’t even use “cell” to talk about phones here! It’s “mobil” or “mobiltelefon”, and the rarer and more expensive space-using sort is “satellittelefon”.
