@omgsoz@DavidZita1@FOXFOOTY I told you to use common sense mate. People lie all the time. There isn’t a reason to lie about anything in this world and people still do it
@DMason53@AFL Sydney derby would never be a good standalone fixture.
They gave the showdown a standalone prime time game a few years ago and it was rated as the worst prime time game in terms of tv viewership in the history of the A
@jackomillard15@AFL Not arguing that at all, in fact I don’t mind when they overlap sometimes. Let’s just not make it a derby and a blockbuster top 8 matchup next time then hey
@AFL whoever ends up making these decisions has never watched footy or supported a team in their life and you can’t convince me otherwise. What is this garbage!
@jackomillard15@AFL Imagine creating a fixture where the only way for the home state to see it live is by overlapping it with another marquee fixture. You on the payroll or what?
@omgsoz@DavidZita1@FOXFOOTY Because it’s 2026, people lie. Getting a teammate as evidence shouldn’t be acceptable. Of course they are going to back their teammate up. They should need to prove beyond reasonable doubt he said it.
@jackomillard15@DavidZita1@FOXFOOTY Anyone with their career on the line would say the same thing. Doesn’t explain why anyone would lie about hearing the double f’s though.
@DMason53@AFL Do you live under a rock mate? If they put it on the Saturday the only place to watch it live would be on Fox since it would be on delay in NSW. They’ve purposefully put it on the Friday so then fans in NSW can watch it live and free on Channel 7
@jackomillard15@AFL Do you seriously need to ask me that? Make either the Saturday morning games overlap (like they’ve always done) or back to the double header Saturday night. Two Friday nights games is the worst fixturing you could come up with. Marquee matchups too, get a grip.
Just some context why there’s frustration around the scheduling of the Sydney Derby. These are all the time slot it’s been placed in since the Covid seasons, 4 season which both Sydney teams have been towards to the top.
To have 3/10 of those be in headline time slots, whilst all being clashes does send a message that the afl thinks people will not watch the Sydney Derby.
I genuinely don’t care, I’ll be at the game live anyway. It is odd though.
@BPCrowvid@tommorris32@sydneyswans@1116sen@LockedInSEN It’s not broken, they do it for a reason. They gave the showdown prime time a few years ago and it was rated as the worst prime time game in AFL history in terms of tv viewership
Matthew Pavlich has today reached out to his predecessor Tom Harley to seek clarity on why there is a double header on Friday night.
The @sydneyswans believe they deserve a standalone game and that nationally the derby carries enough weight as a contest.

Adelaide has turned Gather Round into something bigger than footy 😍
@beastieboy07 highlights how Gather Round has evolved into a celebration of community, culture and belonging: afl.com.au/news/1494483
@7AFL How does the AFL repeatedly complicate the most basic things? Last touch should mean last touch. You touch it last and you give the ball to the other team. End of. How or why is irrelevant.
"The new rule is if you actually attempt to touch it, you've gotta try and keep the ball in."

@Dadinmelb@useless_SC@muntlord@danderfield If you ready what I said you’ll see I said the players are mates. All the players at Victorian clubs are all mates and know each other, there’s not much rivalry between clubs.
@jackomillard15@useless_SC@muntlord@danderfield If you think rival Melbourne crowds are "mates" than I have a bridge to sell you. 🤣
Adelaide v PA is manufactured by the AFL.
Collingwood v Carlton and Hawthorn v Geelong, go back DECADES!
Adelaide Crows didn't even exist as a club before inception into the AFL.
@Dadinmelb@useless_SC@muntlord@danderfield The thing is that the crowd isn’t everything, the players on Port and the crows hate each other whereas everyone in the Victorian clubs seem to all be mates, Carlton-Collingwood and Hawks-Geelong means nothing to the players like the showdown does
@useless_SC@muntlord@danderfield PA didn't even join the AFL till the late 90's. Hawks and Cats rivalry goes back way longer than that. And the size of the crowd is what I'm talking about. Whilst the SA teams can't be blamed for the small crowd, they simply can't emulate a screaming 80k plus MCG.
@leachitup I think they should have a throwback round where they use uniforms from the 80s or 90s (or even older) with the umpires dressing up as well. Not sure how you do that with the newer teams, though.
