Keep remembering this and cracking up thinking about how probably 50 different people got this and were like “yep, looks and sounds great.” Microsoft Teams thumbs up on the clip, thread opened that starts “can we make him sound more like Seth Rogen?”

Been slowly getting accustomed to @browsercompany's Dia browser, but there are two rough edges that come from what I can only assume is their sidebar implementation. Dev tools webpage width resizing is janky, and 2FA code pop-ups from macOS are offset by the sidebar.

@ForrestPKnight Yeah, no - a full vibed rewrite was incredibly reckless and goes against pretty much any reasonable software development principles.

I love yt-dlp, and frankly they can do what they want with their software, but it’s obvious they haven’t looked at the Bun code. It’s a competent port to Rust. And I think folks who say “I won’t use this simply because AI wrote it” are in the same vein as vibe coders who don’t read their code. They are blindly trusting AI, but for them they are trusting it to be bad code like vibe coders are trusting it to be good code.

yt-dlp plans to drop support for Bun Reason: it is vibe-coded

@jacksonhvisuals Absolutely it does. x and y rotation (pitch and yaw) are with the mouse. I tried two-hand gestures for rotation but it was too janky, so I went old-school, and it works great.

Hovercraft 1.2 An archaeologist emailed me last week with a USDZ of an arrowhead. He asked if he could share 3D models on his zoom calls. I said that is an amazing idea. Now everyone can share 3D models on their zoom calls. Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.

VS code/Cursor extensions are a supply chain attack waiting to happen, and have many times... They all contain a crazy amount of node/JS junk, they're often owned by randos, they silently update, nobody looks at them and the security model is shit. Use restricted marketplaces.

1/ We are sharing additional details regarding our investigation into unauthorized access to GitHub's internal repositories. Yesterday we detected and contained a compromise of an employee device involving a poisoned VS Code extension. We removed the malicious extension version, isolated the endpoint, and began incident response immediately.

@rms80 The whole anti Lumen / Nanite crowd is super similar to the “no VFX, all practical” crowd. A lot of people yammering who have no idea what they’re talking about.

@jacksonhvisuals I see you worked on Avatar: Fire and Ash; you should go talk to Alexey Stomakhin at Weta. He's got some great stories. Example: we didn't have a water solver up to the task for Moana, so he and a few others had to invent APIC; APIC is now standard in Houdini/Blender/etc.

This was 10 years ago so I'm a bit hazy on details now, but there were a few shots in this sequence that required a TB of RAM for water sims, and it was really late in production, so our solution was to cannibalize RAM from multiple machines and build some 1 TB RAM servers.

Moana saving Te Kā and restoring Te Fiti in Moana (2016) is still one of Disney’s most beautiful animated sequences. Moana realizing the monster was never meant to be destroyed in the first place. Pure emotional payoff.

1 TB of RAM in a server is commonplace now, but back in 2016 this was pure nutso territory. There are so many crazy stories from making Moana. Just a crazy amount of inventing the tech we needed from scratch as the shots that needed the tech were already in production.
