10 ideas that were built in just a few weeks.
or specifically, the "toy" version of their ideas.
1. first iphone prototype:
apple knew that developing the phone was gonna be hard af.
but a prototype was built in just a few weeks.
this was to test out to see if the multi-touch interface was even possible.
2. the beatles' album "please please me":
this was the album that made the beatles go viral.
they recorded most of the album in a single day in 1963.
it had hits like "love me do" and "twist and shout."
3. the eiffel tower's design:
gustave eiffel came up w/ the concept and sketches in just a few weeks.
the design was proposed for the 1889 world's fair in paris -- it was controversial, the committee didn't like it initially.
but after 2 years, 2 months, and 5 days of building the actual tower -- it now stands as an icon of paris.
4. the rubik's cube:
created by hungarian architect, erno rubik, in 1974.
erno was also an architecture teacher at the time.
he built the first rubik's cube in a single day as a teaching tool to explain explain 3d geometry.
but, it took him over a month to solve his own invention lol.
5. the first of sherlock holmes series:
sir arthur conan doyle wrote the first sherlock holmes in just 3 weeks in 1886.
the famous beginning to the series was "a study in scarlet."
this is where sherlock and dr. watson was first introduced.
6. minecraft:
the first version was created in just 6 days in 2009.
it was originally called "cave game."
the game showed promise, so it continued to evolve to the massive game we know now.
7. slack:
the first version of it was built in about 6 weeks.
it was originally built as a chat tool for a gaming company called tiny speck.
they quickly realized that this could blow up, so they pivoted and slack became the main product.
8. world wide web:
proposed by tim berners-lee in 1989.
although it took longer to build out the idea, the initial design + proof of concept was put together in just a few weeks.
p.s. www ≠ the internet itself lol.
9. the script for rocky -- the movie:
written by sylvester stallone in 1975.
stallone wrote the first draft of this iconic movie in just 3 days -- the man was inspired.
10. the first skateboard:
the story goes that skateboards popped up suddenly in california between the 1940s and 1950s.
apparently surfers slapped together 2x4s and wheels from roller skates within days, and the idea spread like wild fire.
there's no official record of who invented the first skateboard.
but bill richard, an LA surf shop owner is credited w/ assembling the first commercial skateboard in late 1950s
bonus: the first lamborghini.
ferruccio lamborghini decided to create his own cars after being insulted by enzo ferrari.
he built the first lambo, lamborghini 350GTV, in just 4 months.
it was unveiled at the 1963 turin motor show.
