I proposed giving Greenlanders ONE MILLION while researching an American acquisition of Greenland at Stanford - and the numbers work Full report linked in bio, TL;DR: - Greenland has immense untapped economic and geopolitical value (its fjords could house Arctic aircraft carrier ports, allowing for an unprecedented projection of American power), but - Denmark will never part with Greenland (its colony) as doing so will render it geopolitically irrelevant, so - Greenlanders need to exercise their right to secede (granted in 2009) for an acquisition to become feasible, and - The USA should allow Greenlanders to retain a portion of their land, provide ~$500 MM/year government transfers to stabilize Greenland’s economy in the absence of Danish welfare, and send $1MM payments to each citizen, personally, to incentivize their cooperation This proposal allows the USA to acquire the most geopolitically relevant portions of Greenland while simultaneously empowering native Greenlanders to achieve their long held dream of becoming an independent nation without being displaced or ceding control of culturally important lands Critiques, questions, and consults are welcome: greenlandacquisition@gmail.com
