There have been two major revolutions for humans: 1. The Agricultural Revolution Humans no longer limited by what food they can find / hunt. Consequence: Population explosion 2. The Industrial Revolution Humans no longer limited by their biological physical power. Consequence: Explosion in both population and human well-being We are now entering a third revolution: 3. The AI Revolution Humans will no longer be limited by biological mental power. Consequences: ??
Jonatan Pallesen@jonatanpallesen

The most important thing to understand about history, is that the industrial revolution is the main thing that mattered. Even the Roman Empire only made a small dent.

i believe in x-risk from ASI but i don't conceptualize ASI as being novel. relative to the capacity of an individual human, we already have ASI, and we have been grappling with alignment problems for centuries and with very literal x-risk for at least 70 years

If you don't believe in existential risk from artificial super intelligence. then you don't believe in artificial super intelligence. You're just looking at something that isn't scary so you don't have to think about the thing that is

If this is an actual Hamas tunnel, the IDF continue to be the most idiotic organisation on this planet in regards to PR and media handling. The constant easily debunkable, overhyped videos and images they release do nothing but errode their credibility.

IMO, the only thing you need to look good in the wintertime is a big loose overcoat. Four options: 1. Wythe: Big chunky herringbone tweed woven in Donegal, Ireland. Below-the-knee length for that swishy swishy effect. Custom concha-style corozo buttons. Throat latch so you can button this up to the neck. 2. Kaptain Sunshine Traveler: IMO, the single best overcoat on the market. A-line silhouette, cheeky ticket pocket, and equestrian interior leg straps. Wear it with a chunky knit and jeans. Available at No Man Walks Alone and Namu Shop. 3. Berg & Berg: A touch slimmer than the two options above, but still has a lot of verve. The collar looks good when popped from the back. Since they're based in Stockholm, they may be easier to buy from if you're based in Europe. 4. Trunk Clothiers: A London-based shop (so, again, easier to shop if you're based in Europe). Their in-house Devonshire topcoat is a little trimmer and shorter than the others on this list, but without taking away what makes these overcoats look so good. For something more affordable, check Spier & Mackay.

This is actually a fair question. The short version is: the USA wrote the rules of the international system after WWII in ways that benefit us, including the average American. Consequently, defending the system is good for Joe Taxpayer. The long answer is longer! 1/

@jacobdvg @nope_its_lily Australian foreign policy = US foreign policy Essentially, Australia is strategically dependent on the US military. So Australia is always by the US' side.
