Something new is coming to SG+. Over the past few years, we’ve spent a ton of time studying the tactics, concepts, and ideas shaping the modern game. Now, we’re building toward the next layer: how those ideas are taught, practiced, and transferred to the floor. More soon. 🏀 tv.slappinglass.com

With the May D1 Live evaluation period less than 2 weeks away, it’s time to recognize what Alex Mazzella has built over the last 3 seasons up until this point. 68–12 AAU record. Wins over teams from EVERY major sneaker circuit. 5 championship weekends. At St. Joseph's Montvale — led one of the best seasons in program history as a sophomore. At Bergen Catholic — County & State Champion as a junior. The production is undeniable. FORCE MULTIPLIER. College coaches, if you’re paying attention… you WIN with Alex Mazzella.

If you want detailed videos on how I hit these 56 degree bump run and med traj videos, go search on my profile for steep vs shallow chipping videos. Go to my profile. Click on the 🔎 on the top right, search steep, click on the videos page. That entire thread can be useful

My own break 100 90 80 around the green 🧵 Break 100 -Use putter whenever possible. 56 degree if not. -For the bump and run with 56 Feet together. Feet about 1ft from the ball. Hands ahead of the ball and feel like it’s the body doing all the work. No hands no wrist. -Don’t worry about getting it super close. Focus on good contact. (For good contact hands have to stay ahead and head to stay tall)

The 4 most analytically driven teams in the last decade are Houston (under Morey), GS, OKC and the Celtics. 3/4 had very young rosters: 5 NBA Championships 7 Finals Appearances 9 #1 Seeds Don’t let casual fans tell you that analytics goes out the window in the post season.
Ball Don't Stop@balldontstop

This is where the regular season being an analytics free flowing relay hurts young teams. A lot of these Hornets players haven't ever played in real half-court basketball where a team knows your sets and tendencies. Now they look lost.

Base coverage in the NBA is switching 1-4 and dropping the 5. Both switching and drop yield a net of ~ 1.00 PPP. These are considered passive coverages. One of the kickers with both is the ability for the POA defender is blow up or erase screens all together. NBA teams are good at being able to exploite both Switch and Drop coverages (1.10 with primary ball handlers for both, w/ Primary ball handler). One MAJOR difference between College and Pro is how much better POA defenders are at not having to default to their coverage. The best teams in the world all share this common trait BECAUSE PnR accounts for ~ 40% of total half court offense in the NBA. Here is two examples of Boston exploiting a switch and a drop, with their two of their primary ball handlers, when the POA defender can’t blow up the screen. 👇🏼

‼️ You can grow by addition or by multiplication ‼️ DEVELOPMENT is discovering breakthrough moments AND the mundane, simple habits that allow you to maintain the feeling of this breakthrough moment. Basketball Immersion and @BBallImmersion have been my single biggest paradigm ‘shifter’ and learning resource I use. The reason? It doesn’t provide ALL of the solutions, it shows you HOW to find solutions, both as a player and a coach. MULTIPLICATION. You won’t find endless amounts of randomized sets, you’ll be able to create your own sets or apply sets to situations. MULTIPLICATION. You won’t find a script to teach or ‘how to be a coach’, but you’ll learn how to teach and how to coach. MULTIPLICATION. You won’t find ONE way to do it, you’ll be able to synthesize your own style after hearing many ways to do it, at whatever level you are. MULTIPLICATION There is a number of good foundational communities and platforms to use for this. Would LOVE to hear from other coaches. Who has impacted your basketball career the most and what other resources can coaches discover? 👇🏼

🚨Transability of ACTIONS 🚨 This time of year there is an abundance of offensive brilliance on display in the tourney. Many coaches have bookmarked and saved future sets they will be wanting run. 👇🏼 Translatability is much easier than the average coach realizes, IF the order of operations is: 1. Space - space is the prerequisite for shot quality, which is the most important metric in basketball. 2. Advantage - all actions/flow are designed to create an advantage, if you already have an advantage use it. 3. Coverage solution - how does the defense guard PnR/off ball screens and how to do they help (pack/load to the ball/ up the line). With this foundation in mind, translatability is simply understanding GRAVITY, ATHLETICIS and the FLOOR/CEILING of each action or trigger. For example, If it’s 13u, the average gravity won’t be 25 feet on shooters and they typically won’t be playing above the rim. Teams will be switching and putting 2 on the ball more because mistakes won’t be punished like more gravity and more athleticism. This makes it easier to decipher what actions will work and which ones won’t. 3 man actions like Spain, 77, and zoom are much less effective at amateur levels. Flex/princeton concepts like screen the screen and blind pig are KILLERS. Why? The ceiling of the play is determined by the gravity and athleticism. One can guard 2 effectively against 3 man actions without athleticism and shooting from the offense.

DUSTY MAY is the most underrated/unassuming coach in the country, imo. Love his story, and love the way his teams play. Michigan’s holds opponents to 30% from 3, while simulateously averaging 6.1 blocks per game (2nd in the country). It’s very rare that teams BOTH protect the rim AND guard the 3 ball at elite levels. The icing on the cake is they have the best or second best offense in the country, in virtually every metric. Guards look to blow up ball screens vs always relying on coverage. If they get screened, their peel switching is always crisp. It’s loud, it’s active; elite level film to study.👇🏼
