My dad called periods disgusting. My little brother shut him down in one sentence. My brother asked me what periods were like because one of his friends had just gotten hers and he didn’t want to make it awkward for her. So I explained it. Cramps, hormones, chocolate, the basics. You made up two things in your post. It is not the "standard" to tip. It is a custom that many have bought into but is not required. Also, the basic minimum is a concept you have but it has no basis execept in your expectations. Go back a few years and 15% was the "standard" for those who tipped. Instead of encouraging people to stay home who don't tip 20% I encourage wait staff to find new employment that has a basis in a skill set the market is demanding.

We went to a dinner as a group and had a $500 bill. We tipped $40. We were happy we can be able to give our server something, but her reaction was the opposite. She told us she assumed we're going to give her at least $120. When we asked for the manager, she said she was just joking, but she wasn't smiling at all. Idk, but is $40 tip enough for $500 bill?
