I grew up hearing stories about my father @rcjaffe’s time in the O’Malley lab. Ultimately a persons legacy isn’t just the work they produce - it’s the people they influence and inspire. RIP Bert pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

My friend @adamfeuerstein delivers some great reporting and smart commentary on the FDA's direction that $QURE conduct a new randomized trial for its Huntington's drug. A senior FDA official and the company disagree on the basic question of whether the FDA says patients on placebo need a burr drilled in their skulls. That kind of thing should be clear to everyone. It's easy to point to the differences between the FDA's Vinay Prasad and his predecessor, Peter Marks, as being opposites. Prasad is stringent, issuing lots of rejections. Marks had a yogi's regulatory flexibility. I agree with Adam: both of those are extreme views. What most people want is an FDA that is balanced somewhere in the middle. I also suspect that a lot of the controversies we are seeing from the current FDA are the result of refusing to learn lessons from past decisions or follow the basic steps of communicating with companies. Adam's column is very much worth your time. statnews.com/2026/03/05/vin…

I’m honored to have the support of Richard Devine, former Cook County State’s Attorney. He dedicated his career to public service and understands that integrity isn’t optional in leadership — it’s essential. Our communities deserve leaders who put service before self and who show up with honesty, accountability, and a commitment to doing what’s right. I’ve spent my career serving and protecting others. In Congress, I’ll lead with integrity, stand up for our communities, and always put the public interest first. Service matters. Integrity matters. And I’ll never forget who I work for. #MoveForwardWithPhil #PhilAndrewForCongress

The therapeutic equivalent of “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” Must. Do. Better. Gene therapy access is limited by cost and geography npr.org/2026/02/24/nx-…

Below is the story of the first patient treated with a prime-edited therapeutic, developed by @PrimeMedicine in a trial led by Dr. Élie Haddad and his team at CHU Sainte-Justine. This teenager suffered from chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), an immunodeficiency, and now—10 months after treatment—the patient is healthy, stable, and living with a functioning immune system. Tracy Attebury, whose story was previously told by @ginakolata @nytimes, was the second patient treated with a prime-edited therapeutic. cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/54638.html

It is an honor to be endorsed by @Brady_PAC . As someone who has experienced the traumatic effect of gun violence both personally and professionally, I am determined to keep our nation safe by keeping dangerous weapons from dangerous people. This work is urgent, and I am ready to bring my experience and determination to Washington to end this crisis. #philandrewforcongress #teamphil #enoughisenough #bradyunited #endgunviolence

We mapped gene interactions across different environmental conditions (GxGxE) at scale for the first time in human cells. These maps lead to the realization that many genes function in a context dependent manner which provides insight into how humans have relatively few genes but many cell types. Congratulations Ben! Grateful to have the support of Steve Kerr — NBA champion, head coach of the Golden State Warriors, and gun violence prevention advocate. As survivors of gun violence, we’ve both felt the cost of silence and political cowardice. We’ve chosen to turn that pain into action — fighting for accountability and policies that keep families safe. I'm proud to stand with him in the fight against gun violence. #MoveForwardWithPhil #PhilAndrewForCongress

I am humbled and honored to have the support of Anne Eleanor Roosevelt. The Roosevelt family legacy helped guide our nation through a fearful and divided time in history — showing what moral leadership looks like: liberty grounded in compassion, strength, empathy, embraced diversity, and an unwavering commitment to human dignity and equality. I'm committed to leading our nation while upholding the same values as your Congressman. #moveforwardwithphil #philandrewforcongress

The self-inflicted damage to our global leadership in biomedical innovation is horrifying to watch. We need consistent and stable FDA to continue to lead the world in bringing breakthroughs to patients. How would we have escaped the COVID pandemic without mRNA vaccines? How will we be prepared for future pandemics? Let’s wake up here!
Stephen J. Ubl@steveubl

For decades, the U.S. has been the engine of breakthrough medicines — launching two-thirds of new drugs first and sustaining the R&D that benefits patients globally. That leadership didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of policies that reward investment, support scientific risk-taking and protect our innovation ecosystem. Undermining the vaccine market and weakening IP and reimbursement frameworks puts that engine in jeopardy. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/…

Here the Moderna flu data the FDA refused to review. This is the most important slide from the company's study of its experimental flu vaccine-- exactly the data FDA said it wouldn't even review. And below is a thread of relevant slides from that presentation and links to other relevant studies I wanted to bookmark. (I'm a reporter who covers this stuff.)🧵1/14
