Spent a productive day in the UAE, joining His Highness @ABZayed to discuss the challenges facing the region.      The UK shares a deep and historic relationship with the UAE and we work closely together on regional and global priorities, including boosting economic growth.

Rededication services took place for Lieutenant Norman Frederick Hunter and Serjeant George Goodson Moore DCM at our Tyne Cot Cemetery near Ypres and for Private George Hall at our Vichte Military Cemetery near Kortrijk. All three men had been listed as missing and were commemorated on either the Menin Gate Memorial or Tyne Cot Memorial to the missing. Their final resting places were identified thanks to research by a dedicated member of the public submitted to us and confirmed after additional research by our colleagues, MOD (JCCC) and National Army Museum. "More than a century after their deaths, we are honoured to have played a part in identifying the resting places of these three men and installing headstones that now bear their names. George Hall, Norman Frederick Hunter and George Goodson Moore were husbands, brothers and sons. They came from different backgrounds and lived different lives, yet they were united by their common sacrifice. Today’s rededication services are a poignant reminder of the human cost of war and offer a moving moment of reflection during this national period of remembrance." Tonight, I joined The Duke of Edinburgh, Minister Malhotra and members of the Indian diaspora to celebrate the deep cultural and economic ties between our nations. The Free Trade Agreement signed this year promises growth and even stronger partnership between the UK and India.

During the First World War, many Sierra Leoneans served alongside British and Imperial forces in the campaigns in Togoland, the Cameroons, and Mesopotamia both as soldiers and in vital transport and labour roles. This Remembrance Sunday, our colleagues joined Rich Hills, Director of Commemorations, at the Freetown Memorial to take part in the national act of Remembrance. Together with Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE, we unveiled a ‘Start of Work’ banner for the upcoming new Freetown Memorial.
