And we're not just facing a hard problem, we're facing a shrinking window to fix it before the damage is irreversible. Adaptation buys us time. It doesn't buy the planet time. That's the whole point I was trying to make. (4/4)

Here's the part most people skip: we can adapt. We can build AC, seawalls, irrigation. Most of the rest of the planet can't. Animals, ecosystems, entire species don't get a band-aid. They don't get to buy their way out of the heat we're causing. (3/4)

I never said which side I'm on in the degrowth vs "consume our way out" debate. People read my original tweet and decided I was the enemy. Let me be clear about what I actually think. (1/4)

I get that degrowth is seen negatively by people like @levelsio and they see AC as very important but we need these AC because we are using too much of earth's resources and heading on a climate crisis. They are not a solution, they are a band-aid...

If you wanna degrow, just stay in your lane, throw all your IT, go offline, grow your permaculture garden, eat your little vegetables and stop bothering us. Why you guys - especially fr speaking ones - want to teach the world what is right as if you were humanity saviors.

@jaffsoft @JedFrankowski @levelsio China is also leading the way in building new coal plants. They are not constrained by our pretensions. Nonetheless, the solution is simple if not easy: 1000 nuclear plants.

The big fallacy here (and believed by many Europeans) is implying we need degrowth to fix climate change But degrowth is likely just masked foreign sabotage of our societies to make us poor and dumb You can install AC + fix climate change + avoid tens of thousands of Europeans every year dying from heat in other ways like: - changing to clean energy sources: solar, wind, batteries and nuclear (yes nuclear!), so the AC you use comes from clean energy - carbon sequestration or similar tech to remove the emissions already out there - improved production technologies so you emit less or no emissions None of that means you do not need AC, and none of that means you need less GDP growth, that's a psyop!

@GCinvests8 @levelsio You have the right to reject the science (most people do reject things they don't understand or that go against their core belief). But that doesn't mean it's not true.

@jaffsoft @levelsio I reject the idea of human induced climate change. The climate has always changed. In fact, we’re in what most scientists agree is an ice age period. Reject the idea of control over you by control of resources

@jaffsoft @levelsio @realjohnmonarch So you have a heat pump but choose to run it in it's inefficient mode (heating) while avoiding it's efficient mode (cooling) even though summer has sun for energy when it's hot?

@jaffsoft Build in space. Mine asteroids. Conquer the Solar System. Don’t stunt our ambitions. Degrowth locks thinking to Earth. Meanwhile, US, India and China ignore it and sprint towards the final frontier. Beware of the degrowth mind virus.

@levelsio @realjohnmonarch Of course I know, I have one for myself for the last 15 years and install them in my residential units for my tenants. I just wanted to say the reason we need them so much is because we do so little for the climate crisis. I'm canadian, not European.

@jaffsoft @realjohnmonarch You do know a heat pump is literally an AC but put in reverse? It's technically exactly the same thing. You've just been psyopped into hating ACs but liking heat pumps.

@realjohnmonarch @levelsio I don't hate them at all. I have a heat pump that do AC. I just think that recent discussion about AC being the savior of humanity is beyond the point. We need to fix the real issue and fix the climate, fast.

@ultradesign_be @levelsio To be clear, I'm canadian, I have AC and don't see it as a part of the problem. But it's a clear indicator that things are not going in the right direction if the only reason we are able to survive is AC. (Animals will die, fauna will suffer, etc)

@jaffsoft @levelsio You're missing the point. You can't see one type of heat pump as the solution, and the other as a contributor to the problem, especially if the latter is mostly used with clean energy (solar panels). You've been fooled to believe that we need to sabotage our civilization... >>
