I did science and arts & I can tell you for free that it’s easier to pass science subjects than art. Because science is empirical while arts is argumentative.. In essence 2 + 2 is 4 every and anywhere , no matter the formula you use to calculate it. But in literature for example, when you’re asked to do an appraisal of a novel, you can write from the human angle, technical angle, language structure , set & mood , character structure or authors ideology. How the examiner marks it depends on his mood or personality, depending on the examiners interest in that novel, for example—if an examiner is interested in the human angle, he expects you answers from the human angle, answering from the language structure angle might get you marked down. Basically, arts are application questions which depends of plenty variables such as students frame of mind at the point of taking the examination , examiners expected answers and even sometimes belief. I know a student that omitted questions about Eegun Alare in a Yoruba test because he beliefs his Islamic doctrine doesn’t give him the privilege to answer questions about masquerades. Someone didn’t participate in the play of wole Soyinka brother jeros story because he believes it’s a mockery to the body of Christ…he got no marks for that drama.
