Why would the Vedas acknowledge Jains if they did not already exist and have an established philosophy that opposed ritual sacrifice? If Hinduism predates Jainism, why is the latter mentioned? Hinduism is not an all or nothing religion. For example, in Hinduism, you can believe in karma but reject polytheism and believe in a singular creator god. Hinduism accepts that because in Hindu philosophy, god, souls, life, divinity, consciousness are all derived and part of the same ‘super’ consciousness. Just fragmented or split. The universe experiencing itself, so to say. Polytheism in this regard can be thought of in the same way as white light refracting through a prism to produce a rainbow. Different gods are simply manifestations or aspects of the divine. The same way all the colors are simply aspects of white light. God is merciful and yet also wrathful. These ideas are conflicting in the same way blue and red are. Polytheism is simply a way of recognizing and worshiping different/ specific parts of the divine. Most Hindus accept Abrahamic religions as they view it simply a different way to honor the same god. Each soul is on their own journey of spiritual growth and so different religions are accepted as a path for eventual spiritual enlightenment.
