Another data point for Special Election truthers GOP over performance in HD-98 special previewed a close referendum I’m guessing this district voted roughly this way in referendum too
Sam Shirazi@samshirazim

GOP will hold Virginia’s HD-98 Margin will get closer when final mail added on Friday Still GOP over performance compared to 2024 Easy to read into special elections But VA GOP seems more motivated than last year So Dems shouldn’t take redistricting referendum for granted

I can’t even enjoy a walk on the greenway without running into foreigners. I’m in Middle Tennessee. I should not be coming across Muslims (possibly Somalians) speaking in a foreign language. They are not wanted here, @GOP! Do what we elected you to do — deport all of these foreigners.

My entire feed is Virginia right now, so I'd like to take this opportunity to throw my support behind the hottest issue in these parts. Country Roads was, in fact, about western Virginia, and not WVa.

@ChristianHeiens There are no idiots who are likely to win. There are no Dems that are close to right wing who are likely to win. But knock yourself out. I’m always for more voter participation.

I will 100% be voting in the Democratic primary for the 7th District lobstermander, and I encourage all Right-wing Virginians to do the same. There are two strategies when doing this, depending on the environment and the district in question: 1) Vote for the most idiotic candidate who can win to ensure that Dems have lightning rods in Congress that the Right can fundraise and organize against. 2) Vote for the most Right-wing candidate who can win and subvert the Democratic Party from within. Either works for different reasons.

Virginians should treat Congressional races as one-party. Run as Democrats, vote in Democratic primaries. Blue dog democrats like Chap Petersen could, with rightwing support, win primaries in the new districts that are much more watered down (D+8) versus the old Dem districts (D+39).

The Redistricting War has been a national disaster. I will be sponsoring legislation to end partisan gerrymandering by having congressional districts drawn by independent commissions in every state.

The thing is, I just don’t think our side will fight this way. I’d love to live in a world where the right wing ruthlessly wields power against the left, but it’s unlikely. For gerrymandering, we either need to gerrymander harder than the left, or make it completely illegal for anyone to do it. For the filibuster, either get rid of it right now, or enshrine it into our constitution so they can’t take it away if they gain a majority (do this with court packing, too). If we aren’t willing to create advantages for ourselves, we should at least be leveling the playing field, because if we can make this a fair fight we win.

No. I support gerrymandering when my side does it, and I oppose it when Democrats do it because Democrats are my enemy and I want them to lose everywhere. The Democratic Party masquerades as a legitimate political party while functioning as an illegitimate tool for foreigners, criminals, and their managerial handlers to sack and pillage this country at the expense of the American people. The appropriate number of Democratic seats at all levels of government is zero. The party itself should be banned, and at least half of its elected officials should be in prison.
Jon Favreau@jonfavs

I assume every Republican who’s bitching and moaning about Virginia tonight fully supports legislation to eliminate all gerrymandering nationwide, right? Look forward to the next president signing that into law!

@FoodIsGoodFood @constans @mattyglesias I haven’t heard a single liberal criticize the gerrymandering of Virginia. It’s all “this is the republicans fault” to justify democrats ripping away representation from millions of voters.

The Roberts-led Supreme Court and congressional republicans have fought every day to ensure states can redistrict to their liking. Trump called upon states to redistrict this year Now Virginia has a referendum to redistrict, and Republicans are angry. It makes no sense

It is EXTREMELY bad that Republicans repeatedly blocked a national ban on gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is bad, and Republicans are profoundly blameworthy for its continued existence.
YA@YesternightPost

@constans It makes no sense how all the liberal influencers can’t even say that gerrymandering is bad anymore. Not even @mattyglesias is calling it bad. Nakedly partisan.

@tracertong25466 @EbrilSir @constans @mattyglesias Yes, I think democrats have been rejected by the people and should “surrender” what I mean is that they should moderate to better reflect the people they want to represent.

@tracertong25466 @EbrilSir @constans @mattyglesias Anybody can see that this isn’t winning because it’s just going to be an arms race in every state. It’s literally trading short term election results with the trajectory of democracy in America.

@YesternightPost @constans @mattyglesias What?! It’s bad. It’s very bad. I’m not an influencer, but I voted in 2020 for the commission, and I’m glad we’ll use a commission (and likely the SC) again in 2031. And I voted Yes. I wish Trump had not started the mid-decade redistricting. But he did. So I voted to level things

If this were actually true, they wouldn’t be holding a big press conference publicly saying it. They’d actually be quietly hoping for DeSantis to redistrict. Does anyone honestly believe this? Of course not.

Rep. Jeffries "Our message to Florida Republicans is F around and find out. If they go down the road of a DeSantis 'dummymander', the Florida Republicans are going to find themselves in the same situation as Texas Republicans."

@ScottPresler You showed it with 86% in, so the margin did grow. And no one said it’s a mandate. It’s a win to counter what the GOP did in other states. If you want to push for national changes, you know the democrats will be on board.
