My family has spent a lot of time at East Potomac Park: playing 🎾, riding 🚲, swimming 🏊, mini ⛳️, grabbing 🍔 at the clubhouse. Congress made it for us, and everyone else, in 1897: "forever held and used as a park for the recreation and pleasure of the people." It's been whittled away for a decade, and Trump is about to take a wrecking ball to it. The historic pool was permanently closed in 2016 after a contractor botched its water table calculations. NPS signed a lease with @CoachMikeRetta to rehab the tennis club in October 2024, but 18 months later, it's just sitting there vacant and untouched. The golf course, playground, and bike paths are all that's left. Now Trump wants to take this public gift and turn it into his latest faux luxury vanity project. Losing places like this erodes the bonds of community. It's part of why youth sports are expensive and inaccessible. And the only people who benefit are the grifters at the top.
Garrett Morrison@garrett_TFE

These two renderings of a potential "reimagined" East Potomac Park appear in a fundraising document distributed by the new "National Garden of American Heroes Foundation." It's unclear to what degree these (very AI-looking) images represent Tom Fazio's actual plans for the golf course, but I think they reveal some important things about the Trump administration's intentions at East Potomac: 1) The new "championship" golf course would take up most of the island. This would mean losing the perimeter road and bike path, the open space at the southern tip of the island, and perhaps even the famous cherry blossom trees, which feature prominently in an annual festival. These non-golf resources at East Potomac Park are used heavily by D.C. residents. 2) Building a bigger course would also mean reducing the number of available golf holes at the facility, likely from 36 to 18, as well as eliminating a historic, recently restored mini-golf course. Inevitably, this would make golf in D.C. less accessible, especially to beginning golfers. 3) Green fees for East Potomac's Blue Course currently top out at $48. There's no way the number would stay there post-reno. 4) The whole nouveau-riche, water-feature-centric aesthetic shown in the renderings is very much in line with Fazio's past work, but not at all representative of East Potomac's historical character and purpose. 5) The administration and the President himself have been open about their hopes to bring a major championship or Ryder Cup to the renovated East Potomac. I think it would be tremendously difficult to stage a tournament of that scale on this island, even after the reno. It does not appear to me that there's enough room.

I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna be nicer about this. Neocon boomers are mortgaging my generations future by amassing trillions in debt, turning America into a pariah on the global stage, and getting our troops killed for another failing war. I have to watch these neocons lie about the state of this war on TV every single day. Then, the moment I push back and assertively ask, “hey, what’s the actual goal here?” I have a legion of neocon boomers telling me I should know my place. Or I should wait my turn to talk with the grown ups. Fuck that, genuinely. I’m not claiming to have all of the answers or be all knowing. But young people deserve a seat at the table to fight for our interests as well. 95% of media is made up of boomers in suits who created these problems, and being nicer isn’t going to fix them.

Eric Adams got away with bribery and fraud because he kissed Trump's ring. Now he gets to party with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, while we pay more for groceries, gas and healthcare so Trump's other friends can get even richer. I resigned from DOJ because I wouldn't be the one to let this criminal off the hook, and I'm running for Congress to end the corruption that rips money out of our pockets to line Trump’s.
