Over weekend >100 Allegheny County workers reached out to me appalled by this and administration- but afraid to speak out for fear of retribution. Particularly those in Emergency Services, where suicide recently impacted their staff. They are furious.

Esmerlyn Valdez is hitting a HR every 9.83 plate appearances. With 62 games left and assuming he has around 220 more plate appearances that pace would put him at 33 HR. No way he keeps close to that pace, right? Right?

The Pirates won’t. I’m not sure the Padres would. But you’d be nuts to not trade Seth Hernandez for Mason Miller. You’d have 3 more years of contract control with Skenes& Miller. At the same time. Trade one or both later. For a ton. ***k this non-stop future, future, future ***t.

@BillLeeds @MarkMaddenX I tend to believe they need more than just Miller. On the other hand, I don’t think they’re as far away from those other teams as you think. The offense will keep them in games. Rotation has been good enough. Gotta fix the bullpen… with more than one arm.

I don’t care how good Mason Miller is, you do not trade two 100 prospects for a closer. Just because the Padres were dumb enough to do it doesn’t mean we should. Look what the Phillies got for Duran. That’s more realistic

@DTonPirates I get the point and Ozuna has been better but you can’t just take away Lowe’s most successful stretch and Ozuna’s worst. The totals are the totals. That said, I think they’ll move Ozuna if they are willing to pick up most of his remaining salary.

Just a point on perception. Brandon Lowe had an unbelievably hot first month of the season. Marcell Ozuna was a disaster. But since May 1: Brandon Lowe: 289 PA, .765 OPS. 13 HR, 45 RBI Marcell Ozuna: 147 PA, .736 OPS, 6 HR, 20 RBI So in roughly double the PA Lowe has slightly better production over the last 70 games. But many see Lowe as the best hitter on the team, certainly untradeable for a reliever, & Ozuna should be to released. Hmmm. 🤔 #Pirates

If the ONLY WAY the Padres will trade Mason Miller to the Pirates is if the Pirates give up Seth Hernandez, then the Pirates should consider it. Jared Jones looks to be back to form. 23 Ks to 3 walks and only 2 ER in his last 3 starts. Braxton Ashcraft is Braxton Ashcraft. Paul Skenes is Paul Skenes. It would be phenomenal to add Seth Hernandez to that group, but you eventually won’t be able to keep all of them anyway. The Pirates also will not be trading Skenes as long as they are contending. I would consider Seth Hernandez being a part of a Mason Miller trade. Keep in mind, I do think Seth Hernandez will end up being a good starter in the league, but he hasn’t necessarily been lights out since he got promoted to A+ Greensboro. 3.56 ERA across 11 starts.

Update: Pirates GM Ben Cherington says on radio show that Pirates could have traded for relief help by now. But in the long run they would have gotten ripped off in those trades. “There are things we could have done that over time people wouldn't wanted us to do.” WTH.

@NoahW_25 What other offers did they have? Flores is just 25 years old and has 27 major league AB. Don’t write him off just yet. Also.. they got 2 other interesting prospects. Give it a few years before you come to a definitive conclusion.

He was demoted for 2.5 weeks. Not half of a season, not even a whole month. He was recalled in midish-April, and immediatley had a career year. That demotion DID NOT affect this value to the point where Rafael Flores is the best they could get from him in a trade.
