A scandalous decision, FIFA placing its thumb on the scales of the tournament without even feeling compelled to offer a fig leaf of justification. Borderline red cards happen all the time and plenty of teams with more at stake than the USMNT have to just deal with it.

Folarin Balogun has had his suspension for the World Cup round of 16 match against Belgium lifted. Article 27 of FIFA's disciplinary code allows them to suspend any suspension not related to match fixing. No explanation has been provided by FIFA.

If you think something is scandalous now but don’t even bother to post about a similar event from a few months back, then that feels pretty hypocritical. I don’t love the process or the delayed ruling but I would love if everyone stopped acting like it is unprecedented.

If he is not remarkably good, why is this decision scandalous? Moreso than Ronaldo being awarded the same?
Seems as if your axe is grinding the wrong way—and no one (probably including you) know why.
FIFA ultimately made the right call here with Balogun. Having an opinion doesn’t make it right.

@TheB1GCommish @soccer_usa_ I’ve never expressed any great opinion on Balogun. I think he’s good, not remarkably so, and I wouldn’t change my opinion based on four games.
My personal track record on Balogun is I’ve been covering him quite a lot since he was a kid at Arsenal.

I am not obligated to have expressed an opinion on all past events to hold an opinion on current events. If you had evidence of hypocrisy that’d be something else.
