I am not normally an alarmist, but these are not normal times. This change would cripple research infrastructure at hundreds of US institutions, and threatens to end our global superiority in scientific research. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/n…

NIH indirect costs fund the backbone of research: maintaining labs, ensuring safety, and supporting admin work. These are essential for groundbreaking discoveries. Drastic cuts to NIH indirect rates are detrimental to academic biomedical research.

Slashing NIH funding won’t end ‘waste’—it creates more underpowered (too small) studies that don’t work. If we want real breakthroughs, we need to invest in well-designed, well-powered research. Rigor + solid funding is how we move medicine forward.

@lakens Skimmed ~25% but many justify SESOI (which doesn't make sense to me). A few clinical trials but none publicly funded that I saw. My issue is justifying this approach to a grant agency- what do you do if you stop early? Give the $ back? Been hard to convince collaborators.

And provide a free website interface with R code to generate your own synthetic datasets - csdsynthetic.shinyapps.io/synthetic_data… We hope this study will encourage discussion on the merits and barriers of data sharing in CSD, as well as the utility of synthetic data.

Excited to share a new preprint with @ek_kearney & @SLPAustin where we examine how synthetic data can be used to share sensitive data in CSD while maintaining participant confidentiality & statistical properties of the dataset. A brief 🧵... osf.io/preprints/osf/…
