@anish_koka I do not recommend medicine to young people. How in good conscience could you tell a young adult to go and acquire half a million dollars in debt??? It’s lunacy.

The fake narrative is that there are not enough people among the U.S. domestic population that can be doctors. Make US medical education a $400,000 , minimum of 11 year post high school journey that discriminates based on race (guess which ones) and yes.. you may have a problem. We also don’t have a physician shortage problem when we create a new cardiology fellowship yearly for some problem that affects 0.01% of the population. And please understand residency slots exist in many places to .. yes.. provide cheap labor to community hospitals who get paid ~ 2x by the U.S. taxpayer for each spot. Many of these residencies are essentially large feeder programs for hospitalists.. another specialty that didn’t really exist when I started training.

My argument is that All physicians that are here IMGs and usmgs are negatively impacted by the further influx of physicians. It’s a bandaid that makes things worse in the long run. Importing a group (as nice and capable as they may be from whatever country) willing to do what US folks are unwilling to do means we don’t actually address structural problems within the US system. Your response to giving you something that actually happened in PA is to call me ignorant?

@BrentAWilliams2 Dude, I normally appreciate your take on things. But, this admission stuff you're wrong. In the last 10-15 years, exceptional students are being kept out at every level because they're white/Asian. ACGME heavily scrutinized programs that aren't "diverse enough".

If you lowered standards for white midwesterners to get into medical school then this might be true, but then that would be DEI for white midwesterners. Very few high achieving students that take the time and money to make it through American colleges and medical schools are going to choose a low ranked program ANYWHERE, no matter what race they are.
Stephen Horn@stephenehorn

You know who wouldn't have a problem doing a residency at a Midwestern hospital? Midwesterners But the systemic discrimination by the medical establishment against whites means the qualified applicants from these "less prestigious" areas are less likely to get in

Huge No Kings crowd in the Twin Cities. Minnesota has not forgotten what Trump did to them. They’ve not forgotten Renee Good and Alex Pretti. They’ve not forgotten the regime cutting off social supports and Medicaid funding. We won’t forget either.

Murray: Is it true that people making under $184k pay a 12.4% Social Security tax rate? Dahl: Yes Murray: And the rate for someone making $1 million? Dahl: 2.2% Murray: So, a 12.4% tax for people making less than $184k, but 2.2% for a millionaire or .0002% for billionaires.

@KrutikaKuppalli Can you explain where racism comes in? I’m not arguing with you but just wondering why your brain goes to race when the original post was about foreign vs domestic schooling? It’s not psychological projection is it?

This is appalling. I am a US medical grad who works with IMGs every day—many had to work twice as hard just to get here: more exams, visa hurdles, fewer opportunities. They’re not taking shortcuts, they’re overcoming barriers. And our healthcare system depends on them. This kind of rhetoric is ignorant and racist

@dumbitchxprss @aghawk99 @fuqekgs I didn’t say American born. I said local. If you want long term retention in rural areas, you need to identify rural talent at a young age (high school) with interest in rural med, foster that talent, and get that person in a rural focused residency program.

@jameserickson @aghawk99 @fuqekgs Do you have any statistics or data to back up your claim about American born doctors staying in rural areas longer than foreign born doctors? Everything I’m finding says the contrary to your belief.

OK I'll bite: what's so wrong with having foreign medical students???? What if their application and interview are so fucking good they are better than the rest of the applicants???? We want the best, why is it hard to believe that THEY are the best for that program??????????

@aghawk99 @dumbitchxprss @fuqekgs The point is that I understand fully how residency works. I also understand rural medicine well. Foreign grads rarely stay in rural communities for the long haul once visa/service obs are met. Local kids are more likely to stay. We are looking at this wrong.

@BrentAWilliams2 @Lumpy21141798 The problem I would humbly argue is that foreign grad docs don’t typically resolve the scarcity. In my experience they typically move to a rural area for a couple years and then move to a larger population center. It’s not fixing the issue. Local kids are more likely to stay.

@fuqekgs Let me make this clear so you can understand it. Our taxpayers fund residencies. American grads should benefit first. If you don’t have enough graduating med students in America, then that is the problem. Who implied luxury? What are you even saying?

Of course not. That’s the entire point of my post. This would be massively undercompensated for locums or frankly any position in radiology right now. Supply and demand has obviously been in our favor for years. Honestly, this almost reads like a joke or a mistake rather than an actual legitimate locum posting.

@BrentAWilliams2 With the cost of med school I would not recommend a non surgical specialty. In many states the “loan forgiveness” will hardly cover half. Better off becoming a surgeon.

This is a very misleading post, completely devoid of the context needed to understand why so many IMGs are needed every year, mainly: not enough domestic residency spots, not enough interest in primary care, (for obvious reasons) by US graduates, and not enough interest in working in rural areas by US graduates. As an example, if nephrology, which is a very unpopular specialty for US graduates, did not take a significant number of IMGs every year, there would be almost no nephrologists.

When I listen to pastor Hegseth and his religious crusade talk, this clip featuring Bek Lover frequently springs to mind, because the level of ignorance when it comes to religious tribalism is so amusing to me. Everybody’s God is always on their side, but we never seem to hear that from God himself. How convenient. 🎥 TikTok - vm.tiktok.com/ZNRxFaaff/
