The best bet for Labour is Shabana Mahmood: -Actually an MP -To the right, where the country is -No ties to Mandelson -No dodgy tax affairs -Not a manic eco-psychopath -Not thick -Hasn't lost a contest or GE before

@CharlieM2024 @MatthewWest2004 We’ve become much too metropolitan, too liberal and too detached. Voters feel that we’re talking *at* them rather than speaking *for* them. If we stand any chance of dragging our Party back on course, we must urgently change our direction and get back to our roots 🌹

@MatthewWest2004 Fair enough I think the idea Labour is getting too London-centric is borne out by some of the local election results too

We are gonna see the end of Labour in its heartlands if we continue to push the narrative of the EU being the magic cure for our issues.

The changes Starmer made whilst running DPP made it easier for paedophiles to be prosecuted. Same goes for victims of rape gangs, familial rape and rape by spouse. Say what you like about him as PM, he was the best DPP we've ever had. Educate yourself.

@siennamarla WASPI compensation? When every single woman in the cohort is now eligible for a state pension, whilst those born after 5 April 1960 won’t be until they reach a higher age than the WASPI women. Not a cause that deserves support

"Starmer fell back into what he often does which is the 'why'. "I think we're past 'why'. People want to know why their living standards are lower? No they don’t! They get why! "We want to hear what's going to change. Now now now. The urgency. The big idea. That was missing."

I despair. Same old tired anti-Brexit lines that didn't work in 2016 or 2019 and won't work now. He's still the same Shadow Brexit Secretary who crafted Labour's toxic 2nd referendum policy. No lessons learned. Make the argument for sovereignty to deliver a new economic agenda!

I’ve said, and I think I’ve said it for about a year or so lol, that Starmer needed to go before the next general election. However, he needed to step aside at the right time, and that would be in around late 2028. He should then be replaced by Andy Burnham and we’d go into May 2029 with a new leader bounce, and a leader not associated with a government everyone hates. But if Burnham comes in this year, he’ll be despised by 2029. This country is cooked, and Burnham’s popularity will not last our doom-loop economic gloom. You can be as charming as anything, but if wages don’t go up and the cost of living doesn’t ease, any incumbent will be destroyed at the next election.

"I can't imagine anything worse." Closer ties with the EU is "absolutely not" going to see off the "mortal threat" to Labour of the rise in working class support for Reform, warns Lord Glasman. @KateEMcCann | @StigAbell

"The Prime Minister is going, no Prime Minister can survive this... It's time to be real, he's going. No doubt about it." Labour MP Jonathan Hinder describes Sir Keir Starmer's speech this morning speech as "tone deaf" and "at its worst, downright insulting". #Newsnight

If that’s true, I hope @AbdiDuale_ and the rest of the NEC reflect on why they made such a serious strategic error earlier this year. Prioritising “loyalties” over a pragmatic assessment of political reality is exactly why they failed to defend Labour's best interests.
Dan Bloom@danbloom1

EXCL: Labour officials are now less likely to block Andy Burnham from returning to parliament, a member of the party’s ruling body has suggested Abdi Duale said NEC officers are "reassessing" their old loyalties, e.g. to Keir Starmer, because "this is now terminal for the party"
