@cvfarming GB cattle numbers are low. High cull rates due to drought and input costs and leading to lower numbers of finishing animals. I think market will drop to around £4.50kg DW and then bounce back. Very dependant and retail prices quite how much. Of which we have little control.

Beef industry folk, what's your thoughts on the future of the beef price? Crystal ball gazing and thinking long term what's it likely to look like. What does everyone think and why?

@herdyshepherd1 @ThrimbyFarms I’d argue that the breeders led to the move in the wrong direction, not the EBV’s. They are a tool to aid breeding decisions, they aren’t responsible for actually making them.

South Poll cattle Basically a composite breed created from four old breeds to create what the farmers want her Docile cows Grass only performance Small frame size Good mothers But not too milky Right physical type for our wintering Ranging from 900-1100lbs (450kgs)

@herdyshepherd1 @ThrimbyFarms Maybe so, but EBV’s are exactly that, a numeration of real world function that allows the breeder to make the correct and informed choice for their farm. Times change and things move on…when they didn’t invent the mower because the scythe would suffice.

@jamesherrick @ThrimbyFarms These don’t believe in data and in fact have banned EBVs They only care about real world function in real ranch conditions rather than single traits

@ThrimbyFarms @herdyshepherd1 This is what Google says…Angus, Hereford, Senepol, and Barzona. Stabilisers are the same concept - Angus, Hereford, Simmental and Gelbvieh. Stabilisers however have a more science and data behind their breeding than any other cattle breed.

🤔 Given the colossal price of machinery, is it not too much to ask for a manufacturer to come up with something that is fit for purpose and keeps the operators safe, asks @jamesherrick... @yellowwelliesuk | @nfu_farmsafety

Careful management, particularly post-calving, is required to ensure a 365-day calving interval is retained. Sarah Penrose, senior knowledge exchange manager at AHDB beef and lamb, provides a step-by-step guide to post-calving management fwi.co.uk/livestock/live…

@ThatWelshFarmer I think it’s very dependent on your sector and where you live. I’m Leicestershire and there are a lot of large scale arable or dairy farms, often with the backing of building money. They draw big wages and pay big wages, then there’s some smaller ones who don’t.

Genuine question. What wage do people expect to make off farms. I’m a lucky one, born on a farm. I’ve been running the farm for 10 years now and I pay myself £12,000 a year. All money made over that is pumped back into the farm. Am I paying myself more than others on here?
