@_baldtires Rover, in the 60s had aluminium panels, all the 70s Range Rovers were similar. The UK was short on steel, and had an abundance of aircraft engineers after the war. I had a late 70's caddy that had a aluminium bonnet (hood).

the early history of aluminum cars is so fucking fascinating but there are like ZERO books about it or anything. not even magazine articles.

The carnivore shepherd's pie goes in the oven without a potato anywhere near it. The mash was never the dish. It turned up around 1791, when the potato became the food of the labouring poor, and its job was to make a little meat look like a proper dinner. Two hundred years later we are still eating the cheap bit and calling it tradition. Every low carb replacement fails the same way: - Cauliflower: water, doing an impression. - Celeriac: potato with a posher accent. - Swede: orange, and it knows what it did. - Turnip: grey by minute ten. - Pork rinds: crunchy, soggy, gone. All of them auditioning for a part nobody needs cast. Replace the job instead: brown, hold a spoon, soak up gravy. - 800g lamb mince, 20% fat. - 250ml bone broth, the gelatinous kind. - 100g chicken livers, optional. - 6 eggs, 100ml cream, 75g melted butter. - 150g mature cheddar. Brown the mince in two batches until it has real colour, because grey mince tastes exactly as sad as it looks. Broth in, simmer to a thick gravy. Whisk the eggs with cream and butter, pour it over, 180C for thirty minutes. It puffs into a golden crust and slices cold the next day. Someone will tell you it is not a shepherd's pie without the mash. Ask them which part the shepherd was eating.

Each time I go to Germany, I wonder why this country is so stuck in the last century: painfully slow internet and mobile, embarrassing railways, fax machines still in use, and no card payments in some restaurants. I never use cash in other countries. What’s wrong with Germany?

@willibossman @elonmusk Now filter for the real economy not government and state funded jobs. The exact reason we are anti state is because the pay is disproportionate to benefit provided

@elonmusk Nonsense. I know you guys don't believe in education which shows a clear preference for blue with higher education, so lets just use income level, as a measurement for 'exceptional'.

The problem is that the not all people technically smart enough actually do see through it. My personal experience is the midwits are the most dangerous. They think they are smart, because they have acquired skills, arrogantly think they are correct and are in positions of influence and power.

@elonmusk Because anyone with an IQ over 130 can see their game for what it is. It is just logic. Simply to ask logical/ethical questions to all their actions… “What if everyone did this? Would this action improve society or destroy it?” It isn’t complicated. It is simple, but not easy.

Filtering for exceptional people may actually be immoral, if you take the best the donor countries are doomed to underperform. There is an argument for allowing this where the donor states are so corrupt individual exceptionalism makes no difference. But this goes massively off topic. Every state should be maximising the potential of its own people first.

One thing you notice from being a poster is that lots of people don’t so much ‘read’ sentences as pick out a few key words, rearrange them in random order, and then guess what you said by that. idk why.

@cremieuxrecueil Thes stats are amazing, and after visiting last year I feel don't even tell the whole story. I travelled the country extensively, not just the tourist areas. The place feels not just safe, but kind and civilised in a way much of the UK does not anymore.

@sterespect @cremieuxrecueil I have thought about it, and researched it. A murderer can kill 10's of people, affecting 100's of friends and families. Before you come onto the thousands they will steal from, intimidate, injure and maim. It is not even close.

@RJHCKS @RMistereggen I read it. You are still confusing a factor cited in a parole decision with the crime he was imprisoned for. He was jailed for leading a neo-Nazi criminal organisation, not for posting on X. Condescension cannot repair a false equivalence.

How many of you have heard of Ilias Kasidiaris? The former Greek MP and politician remains imprisoned in Greece, due to one of the most controversial cases in the EU. He’s serving time from the Golden Dawn convictions, but a recent judicial decision has drawn heavy criticism: His June 2025 release request was denied 2-1, against the Prosecutor’s recommendation, partly because he maintains an active X account (@IliasKasidiaris), with help from supporters to comment on politics. “The applicant… maintains a personal account on… X… expressing his views on current political and social affairs,” the court said. They will therefore keep him imprisoned despite good conduct and significant time served. This sets a dangerous precedent for political speech. How does it differ from cases Elon Musk has criticized in the UK?

@RMistereggen Wow. Spectacularly dishonest framing. Kasidiaris was not imprisoned for posting on X; he was convicted for his leadership role in Golden Dawn, a neo-Nazi criminal organisation. Political activity being considered during parole is not the same as being jailed for an opinion.
