Mrs Olley's Pie and Eel shop in old Rathbone Street Market - originally run by a widow, Jane Charman and her niece in 1914. It remained as a pie shop after they left, becoming the famous Mrs Olley’s Pie and Mash. Read more about this delicacy the-east-end.co.uk/pie-mash-and-l#eastend

The nearest thing I ever got to a cruise! Vehicles queue to board the Woolwich Ferry - a ferry has been in existence at Woolwich since the 14th Century and a free service opened on 23rd March 1889 with the ship shown underway - the paddle steamer ‘Gordon’… #London #History

Do you know what this is? The Mouth of Truth is an ancient marble mask in Rome, Italy 🇮🇹, said to bite the hands of liars Likely once a fountain or drain, it became world-famous after Roman Holiday (1953) Today one of the city’s most iconic photo spots

Another street origin - French Ordinary Court, EC3 - this moniker dates back to the days of the Huguenots (see my website) who fled persecution from Catholic France. In this area they set up cafes and sold ‘ordinarys’ - a term for a fixed price meal the-east-end.co.uk

Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

@MartinSLewis Paying extra for next day delivery, but no parcel arrives. Shouldn't delivery companies refund the extra amount paid? (automatically) ?
