Research shows that listening to music while revising is not as beneficial as doing it in silence. Students who revised in quiet environments performed over 60% better in an exam than their peers who revised listening to music that had lyrics. Read more innerdrive.co.uk/blog/music-whi…

The 8th habit of highly effective people: They don’t spend all their time reading about the 7 habits of highly effective people. Extended reflection without action is a form of procrastination. Doing is a catalyst for thinking and learning.

@MamaSitaa__ It’s really unethical to give someone academic credit for not going to the bathroom. I would definitely report that.

My daughter's math teacher has a rule that they only get one bathroom pass per week, AND, if they don't use it, they get academic extra credit. I am livid. But my daughter is mad that I want to email the teacher and CC the principal. Am I wrong here?

Last year I was sitting in a local library whilst my son sat a GCSE maths exam. The librarian, who was in her late 30s or early 40s, asked why I was there. When I told her, she said ‘I am so glad I wasn’t born nowadays. I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today.’ She told me that she had failed her maths GCSE, and that she had retaken it and had failed again. ‘I just can’t do maths’ she said. However, at the time this wasn’t an insurmountable barrier. She got other qualifications and developed an interest in English literature. She got a place at university to study librarianship, successfully obtained her degree and now works as a librarian. All without GCSE maths. Had she been a teenager now, that opportunity would most likely not have been open to her. Requiring everyone to pass GCSE Maths in order to progress limits some young people and causes intense distress. There is no way that everyone will ever pass. The exams are not designed that way. The only real way to raise standards for all is to create systems which empower young people to succeed in many different ways. Some of which will not involve a pass in GCSE maths. It can never be the case that everyone passes and those who fail need a future to look forward to as well.

This is a brilliant visualisation from Rich Mayer: "If the learning style principle were correct, you would expect visualizers to perform better on a test after studying a visually based lesson whereas verbalizers should perform better on a test after studying a verbally based lesson—as shown in the graph on the left. In contrast, when Laura Massa and I conducted just such a study, we found results that were more like the graph on the right side of the figure—both verbalizers and visualizers did about the same with a verbally based lesson and both did about the same with a visually based lesson. Like many other studies on the visualizer-verbalizer style dimension, there was no evidence to support the learning style principle. Until there is a supportive evidence base, it is best to be skeptical of recommendations to individualize instruction based on learning style."

Do not deliver instruction without every single student looking at you I don’t understand why teachers don’t require all eyes on them during instruction. It blows my mind to walk into a class and see several Ss with their hacks turned to the T, or even worse, looking at laptops
