@educatedandfree Sure, and the writing and thinking quality shows that. Pre-AP and IB start in 9th grade, and any kids can opt in. I’m not trying to downplay this kid’s achievement, but high schools are doing this.

No screens. Ray Bradbury, nightly reading and minimal notes, daily in-class discussions of vocabulary and what the kids thought was important from the story. This was produced in 45 minutes, with only a writing utensil and two sheets of lined paper. No AI, just a 12yo brain.

I have to laugh at comments about explicit teaching being “easier” and inquiry being the more “elevated” teaching method. Setting aside the fact you have to get kids to pay attention and responding to EVERY signal, explicit teaching means you can’t just assign stuff anymore!
