Question with the Rays stadium. IF a deal does get without the city of Tampa's investment, does that mean the Rays won't pay taxes to the city?

I continue to see this narrative in the comments from fans on multiple apps and find it baffling, that somehow Todd Bowles is responsible for Baker Mayfield and Vita Vea wanting new contracts and not receiving them. HOW? He’s not at the negotiating table. He’s not crunching those numbers. Understand that the front office isn’t solely in charge of this either. It’s an effect, not a cause. Bowles has to navigate employees disgruntled by pay but he’s in no way responsible for their deals or proposed extensions. Do you guys think one or two more wins and a playoff appearance would lead these 31-year-old players to receive more years, more money and more guarantees? Do you think they would be OK with fewer years, money and guarantees on their proposed deals, especially when one could argue that such contributions to those games give them potentially more negotiating leverage if they played key roles? They’re trying to take care of their families and secure their futures. That’s the bottom line. Do you think ownership would be more willing to invest and borrow money from the future if they had a different head coach, because if that’s the case, why would they have kept him after last season? It feels like fans are just looking for any and all types of excuses to pin this on the head coach.

Lots of talk about Bucs and dead money counting against salary cap. They used void years a lot late in the Brady era to fit more under the cap, and it took a while to get out from under that. Their dead money by year: 2023: $81.5 million (highest in NFL) 2024: $62.5 million 2025: $50.9 million 2026: $13.3 million (8th-lowest) They've largely avoided it in recent years -- Mayfield is a big exception, with $30 million in dead money from his current deal. Aside from that, the only 2027 dead money should come from Anthony Nelson ($2.6m) and Vita Vea ($2.3m). They're accounting for that as part of their cap allocations, and will borrow from future years with restructures to offset any limitations it brings.

Franchise tag should be about $50 million in 2027. Mayfield’s cap hit, including $30 million in dead money from his last deal, would be about $80 million, which is considerable. His cap hit in 2025 was $26m, and is $40m this year. Harder to surround him with talent with that.
